Weekend Reflections Newsletter

by Confidential Search Solutions

Greetings!
   TJ's Headshot
We are so appreciative to those of you who missed our monthly Weekend Reflections newsletter.  Thank you! We are glad to be back and excited to share more updates and news with you.

Many changes have occurred over the last few months to include personnel changes, website changes, organizational changes, and more.  Some we anticipated and planned for and others were a surprise.  Unexpected changes are a factor in life.  Change brings about valuable educational and learning opportunities for each of us.  The best companies survive and thrive and the best people learn to adjust and continue to move forward.

In the last few months, we've been blessed to receive some exciting recognition.  One we were most surprised to receive was the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce's 2012 Small Business Leader of the Year Award for new businesses. After only three years in business, we were most humbled to be selected from among so many amazing new businesses in the city.

The last several months has allowed us to grow and learn first hand how to navigate through the ebbs and flows of business and life.  As a result, our focus is more refined.

Our executive and professional recruiting service is now full service to include direct hire, contract staffing, and payrolling. Our training services now offer DISC & Diversity training classes.  Additionally, our career coaching services is an ongoing service for professionals who have hit the glass ceiling or need more guidance in managing their career.

Thank you again for your continuous support.  Remember we are a locally based but globally focused employment consulting firm.  We give you options to help you succeed.

Have A Great Day Everyone!

Respectfully,

National & State Employment Trends & Updates

The newly updated unemployment rate for October 2012, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, has dropped to 7.8%.

Factoid #1 (Source: Department of Labor)

The US Department of Labor launches virtual Workplace Flexibility Toolkit during National Disability Employment Awareness Month to provide employees, job seekers, employers, policymakers and researchers with information, resources and a unique approach to workplace flexibility. Workplace flexibility policies and practices typically focus on when and where the work is done. With all of the generational changes in the workplace, the toolkit adds a new dimension - an emphasis on flexibility around job tasks and what work is done.

Funded by the department's Office of Disability Employment Policy in partnership with the department's Women's Bureau, the toolkit makes more than 170 resources easily accessible.  Read more about the toolkit at the following link: http://www.dol.gov/opa/media/press/odep/ODEP20122014.htm#.UHwpRMU712w

Featured Weekend Reflections for Employers
Can Conflict in the Workplace Benefit Your Organization?
By TJ Haygood

According to an article and video snippet for small businesses on Manta's website, the answer is absolutely yes.  Conflict can indeed be positive and beneficial to most organizations when respect for the individual is maintained and the greater good of the organization is the goal.

For the purpose of this article, the use of the word conflict refers to any past, present, or future period when two or more people disagree on a certain topic of discussion based on their personal and/or professional points of view.  This can happen with any discussion to include which employee to promote, what is appropriate attire for the office, or which software to select for the accounting department.

As leaders in the workplace, it is important to build an environment that welcomes diversity of thought.  Listen carefully to what various generations think including those from different departments.  It may be surprising to know that someone in the accounting department may actually have a brilliant marketing idea.

Give your employees the ability to express their differences without fear of retribution or retaliation.  Conflict can be one of the best ingredients to become a more productive and efficient organization.
