Dear AVYSL families:

With our Fall 2013 season officially underway, AVYSL is now in our 46th year of delivering quality soccer programs for the youth of Almaden Valley and beyond.  Today, we're honored to be the home to more than 1,700 youth soccer players across both our recreational and competitive programs.

We could not offer all that we do, on the scale in which we do, without the help of so many incredible volunteers.  From our largely volunteer Board of Directors, to our recreational coaches, team managers, age group coordinators, and all the families who help us line fields and marshall tournaments, we thank you for the vital role each of you play in supporting the Almaden Valley Youth Soccer League.

I truly hope your player is enjoying the camaraderie, skill development and competition of the Fall season.

-  John Jussen, AVYSL President

Fall Recreational Recap

The Fall Recreational season has just passed the midpoint having cycled through 5 matches of our 10 match season.  The program has been a big success this year with our player count reaching more than 1,300 players and over 110 teams!

It's an uplifting and proud experience to drive through Almaden Valley on a Saturday or Sunday morning and see soccer fields full of colorful, uniform-clad kids running back and forth while a row of parents cheers them on.  Smiles on the children's faces, cheers after scoring a goal, the seriousness of a defender stopping offensive progression, and parents squeezing the arms of their chairs trying to will results of their children's teams...it's an amazing experience for all of us, and AVYSL is honored to be able to provide this to the Almaden Community.

A few notes to be aware of regarding upcoming practice changes (due to reduced daylight) and Jamboree, click here to READ MORE.  Please be sure to check the website for other updates and important announcements.

We hope your children are building a true love for the game and have a fantastic rest of the season!

Parents, want to really help a referee?
Believe us, we know that sitting back and watching a game can, at times, feel more challenging than being on the field and playing!

However, if you really want to know how to provide the best support to: your player, your team, your coach and even the referees from your spot on the sidelines, educate yourself on the rules of the game and the role of the referee.

We have made available a good amount of information on our website about the game and rules associated with the game, and encourage each parent to understand the rules and the roles of soccer.

This month, our health & well-being spotlight is on:  CONCUSSIONS
Click on the link above to watch a highly informative video from US Soccer about how they're educating referees on concussion management protocols.
