Our condolences to the families of Ellen Rolston Cabell and Michal Paula Craig-Gordon, both supporters of GFCFS. They asked that donations be made to GFCFS in lieu of flowers. Ellen died on August 22, and Paula passed away on October 16.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT -- LYNN McNAMARA
|
"If you look to surround yourself with caring people, you meet great people."
|
As a new resident of Goochland, Lynn McNamara looked for a place where she could do the most good while meeting people. "If you look to surround yourself with caring people, you meet great people," she said. And what she found at Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services are amazing people. In 2009 when she relocated to Virginia, Lynn wanted to work but have the flexibility to visit her family back in New Hampshire. Volunteering at GFCFS fit the bill.
Lynn has worked in both the Clothes Closet and Food Pantry and has been a GFCFS volunteer for over five years. Currently, she spends most of her volunteer time sorting donations in the Clothes Closet workroom. A former art teacher, Lynn has a keen eye. No one sorts donations faster than Lynn. She can get through 30 bags of donations in one 3 hour shift. According to Charlotte Bennett, Clothes Closet Manager, "We are thrilled to have Lynn as a volunteer." She is "very dedicated and gives much of her time and talent" to the Clothes Closet.

At the 6th Annual Building Bridges of Hope Breakfast, over $265,000 was donated or pledged this year!
|
The 2015 BBH Breakfast was terrific thanks to all the table captains, guests, staff, clients, and friends who were involved in this huge event. On Wednesday, November 4, around 330 people came to Hope Church to hear more about GFCFS.
Executive Director, Sally Graham, gave an overview of our programs and successes, we watched an inspirational video, and we heard real live stories from our clients. The BBH Breakfast is our main fundraiser each year. The money raised from this event will be used to stock the Food Pantry shelves, provide healthcare to uninsured adults and much more. It is not too late to turn in your pledge or donation.
