Greetings!

Read about all the things the club has been doing to get ready for a great new season.

 Happy Reading!

President's Ponderings

Our 2016 summer season at GBC is a little more than 50 days away!  We are really looking forward to a great season.   It was a rather quiet winter at GBC compared to last year when we renovated the kitchen.

We will see a change in the general manager at the club as Wendy has chosen to pursue other career goals.  Please join me in wishing her well and thanking her for all of her efforts over the last year.  Join me in welcoming, David Field as the new general manager.  The Vice President's report will provide more detail.

The committees and the Board have been busy all winter planning for the upcoming season.  Some of the highlights from this planning include:
  • Kevin Millonzi will continue as our exclusive concessionaire with a new 3 year contract.
  • Entertainment from some great RI entertainers, from Those Guys to Steve Smith & the Nakeds and many more.
  • Currently, we have 31 events booked for the 2016 season and 6 booked for the 2017 season.  There are many more dates available for both 2016 and 2017.
  • We will begin billing members every 2 weeks this season rather than monthly.  This will help the club's cash flow when incoming cash is at a slowdown.
  • Some of the building improvements include: several Bathhouses have undergone some much needed renovations to fix damage caused by excessive water damage and the electrical power lines have been replaced.
We are very excited for this upcoming season and hope you are as well. Keep a look out for upcoming newsletters containing the date of the Spring Shareholders Annual meeting and the 2016 Welcome Reception.

Vice President's Views

In less than two months, the 2016 GBC summer season will start and we will all be enjoying the fun, food, entertainment, relaxation and family atmosphere of our great club.

I would like to welcome David Field as the new General Manager of the Galilee Beach Club.  He has over 22 year's management experience within the hospitality industry and specific familiarity with beach clubs in Rhode Island.  David brings his knowledge, experience, capabilities and passion to the position and we are looking forward to an exciting summer season.

I would like to thank Wendy Riordan for all of her hard work and dedication that she has provided to the GBC membership and the Board of Directors.   Through her efforts, the GBC continues to grow as an organization as we strive to improve the quality of the member's experience.  I wish Wendy all the best in her future endeavors.

I look forward to seeing everyone on the beach!

Over this past winter, the executive board of the Galilee Beach Club Association reviewed the process by which it bills its members during the summer season.  The goals of this review were to make the billing process more efficient so that club members would receive a statement of expenses in a timelier manner and to improve the flow of cash to the Club. Based on this review, the board has decided to make the following changes to the Club's billing procedures:
  • Billing statements will be issued by e-mail.  They will no longer be mailed.
  • The statements will be issued on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Payment will be due within 14 days of the issuance of a bill

We have always known  that the Galilee Beach Club is a "diamond in the rough".  Well, now a bride from as far away as Texas feels the same way because she booked her special day with us based upon all of the event photos that are shared on our website.

Yes, the word has gotten out that GBC is the place for any special function. Our participation in the South County Bridal Show in January, our ads in several magazine and online publications, and the website photo presentations of actual events from the past year have substantially increased our function business. To date, we have already surpassed last year's function revenue with our bookings.

The club's phone has been ringing off the hook with individuals making specific inquiries about the place, as well as, to set up appointments to see it.  As a result, we have a full schedule of events booked - weddings, rehearsal dinners, school and business outings, and private parties that begin in early May through the end of June and extend throughout September and into October of 2016.  In addition, we also have an extensive list of individuals who have booked or are considering us for 2017 and 2018.

With the availability of the club on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout our season and the new fee schedule, members are encouraged to book their next family event or private party here. Contact our new manager, David, at manager@galileebeachclub.com, for available dates and times.

Building's Blurbs

We have been busy working on this year's projects to get the club all spruced up for another season.  Some painting has been done to the walls inside the club house and dugout, as well as, to the bar stools and dining chairs. A new shed, to be installed in April, was purchased to store our extra dining room and dugout items (chairs, tables, etc. ) in order to free up space in the dugout that is now used for events. In addition, some work was done to the Manager's office to help the airflow and allow for storage. Additional maintenance was done at 221 Sand Hill to replace the sump pump and to ensure that the furnace is in good working order.

By the time the season opens, you will also notice some repairs have been made to the cement at our entrance and new electrical wires were installed that do not cross over the front walkway.  The decks for the dune-side cabanas have been replaced and repairs were completed on the gutter in the walkway and to the dugout ceiling. The bathhouses and their floors that sit over the dugout have finally been replaced to ensure the integrity of the dugout work that we did several years ago.  You will also notice some new plantings by the fence in the parking lot area to create a barrier to the sand that the wind whips up on that side of the club.

Finally, we are in the process of forming a task force to review our parking lot procedures and policies.  If you are interested, please email Jackie at:
jtracy@mt-cpas.com, as they will be meeting shortly.

An updated policy manual will be posted to the website shortly.  It includes details on the new payment procedures that the Treasurer outlined in his section. These changes were necessary in order to meet the GBC's cash flow requirements throughout the entire year.

On another note, have you ever wondered about how you get on a wait list for an add-on or how the whole wait list process works?  Wonder no more, an appendix has been added to the policy manual that explains the process.  A copy of the Wait List will also be available throughout the season in the Manager's office.

Food Footnotes

Millonzi Fine Catering would like to welcome back all of our shareholders, past seasonal members and new members for the 2016 season. Let's keep our fingers crossed for some spectacular weather this summer.

Our team is looking forward to a great summer of fun, food, and entertainment.  We are busy working with the Food and Beverage Committee to plan our food and beverage offerings which will be finalized by the end of April. You may pass along any suggestions you might like to see on the menu for the upcoming season to me at kevinmillonzi@aol.com

The entertainment committee has put together a great list of bands and entertainment offerings some of which have already been highlighted in this newsletter.

Keep in mind that the club is available for special functions on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights throughout the season. Several members have already booked private parties.  Please let us know if you are interested in booking an event and we will customize it to your liking.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon and getting the chance to meet all of the new members.
