Board of Directors

Greetings!

Spring is finally here, and many of our members have been very busy getting ready for a wonderful 2014 season. Read on to see all that we are accomplishing. Please remember, the food & drink minimum payment is due May 1st.

Happy Reading!

President's Ponderings

Happy New Year! From my vantage point, April 15th is like New Year's Eve (except I like this day a little more...), and it's a whole new ball game. The weather is starting to look more like spring (well except for that silly snow on April 16th); flowers are blooming; and I am starting to get more GBC emails anticipating our coming summer season. I thought we had a flurry of activity in February and March, but we have even more activity now, and I am so happy we now have a General Manager on board to help move everything along. I am also so happy to see so many of our members participating in our various committees, providing input, and helping to generate excitement for the current season. Now, where did I put all my bathing suits...

Vice President's Views

It is my pleasure to introduce our new Club Manager, Deborah Kelso. Deb is very well known in South County both from her time at The Coast Guard House and at the Chamber of Commerce. Kudos to Kara Bell and Mick Coppolino for recruiting and recommending Deb to us!

Welcome to the GBC, Deb! We are very excited to have you on the team! See the manager section for a note from Deb.

Treasurer's Tallies

GBC is off to a good financial start!!

Full memberships, including bathhouses and cabanas, translate into a healthy financial picture for GBC. Projected Revenue is expected to be up about 8% over our prior year, which will help to fund our operating and capital expenditures as we head into the busy months.

This strong financial position is allowing us to maintain/upgrade our property as we offer our members a meaningful beach club experience.

Board's Briefs

The last board meeting was held on Thursday April 3, 2014, at Jackie's office and via conference call. Items discussed included

  • Shareholder purchase (direct, third party, and buy-back) process is done, including forms and letter templates
  • The club is Hosting the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on June 18th
  • Our financial numbers are tracking on budget
  • Food and Beverage task force is working up sample menus and will meet with Kevin
  • Approved the hiring of a General Manager
  • Scheduled springtime work including roofing in locker area
  • Buildings and Ground Chair will be doing a kitchen walk through with Concessionaire
  • Dining room speakers will be upgraded to prevent the issues from the prior season
  • Membership numbers on track with 14 new members already
Membership's Memos

We are still way ahead of last year's membership sign ups. If you have any friends or family that want to join this year, they need to send in their applications ASAP.

Hopefully, everyone has sent in their payments. We will be reviewing unpaid accounts and do not want to see any shareholders lose their discount or any cabana or bathhouse renters lose out to the waiting list. Food minimums are due May 1st.

When you go into your account, you will notice an event calendar. We are in the process of adding the summer events to the calendar. If you have Outlook on your computer, you will be able to add any of the entertainment activities to your own calendar by clicking the event and then "add to calendar".

If you have any questions or need assistance reading your account, please send us an e-mail to membership@galileebeachclub.com

Function's Fan Fare

Hello Everyone.

Our committee has been very busy communicating with prospective clients and showing them our beautiful beach club.

We have reached an all-time high for bookings. The rents will be a great contribution toward helping with beach club improvements.

Please refer to the calendar that Tracy Kubricky is preparing.

Many thanks to Diane Placco, Elaine Winthrop, and Kara Bell for showing the beach club while I have been away. They have been great sales people.

Building's Blurbs

Joey is working on getting the final Dugout work scheduled for the end of April. First, the floor needs to be finished, finally, and then we can install the shutters, wall lights, reset the heat, and hang the pictures taken by our contest winners. The Sand Bar sign is also being designed. Speaking of finally, all contest winners should have the prizes in hand as they were sent out on April 14th. Our first beach wedding is May 24th, so all this work needs to be done by then. For us, it will be like a whole new Dugout again without the hurricane damage!

Other work being scheduled is roofing the remaining bathhouse area. This will complete all the flat roofs of the club. We are also changing the trim along the roof line prior to roof installation. We will be power washing and painting bathhouse doors. The stairway from the kitchen to the Dugout will be shored up. Our sound person will work on the upstairs sound system which probably needs a transformer to prevent the shorting out which is occurring.

Strategic Sessions

The strategic planning committees are continuing to work on creating our futures plans. The summary of each committees work is below.

Food and Beverage Operation - Chris O'Brien

The Task Force has been meeting in their subcommittees to come up with menu ideas. The Full Task Force has also met with Kevin to do the actual menu selections. Apparently, everyone left hungry after the meeting!

Once this work has been done the Task Force will turn their focus towards working with the other Strategic Planning Task Forces to work on our future plans.

Master Plan Task Force - Lisa Fiore

Who We Are - Marcia Harrop

No updates from the last newsletter; we are waiting to coordinate next steps with Food and Beverage after the current year planning is done.

Food Footnotes

As the summer is fast approaching the menu committees and I have been busy planning and tweaking the dining operations at the club. Much thought has gone into the menu selections and variety, as well as an emphasis on healthy alternatives and snack items.

As a result of participating on the menu committee, Dave Hahn actually got to create his own salad selection. With that said, we are still open for menu suggestions or ideas. Feel free to email me

kevinmillonzi@aol.com or Chris O'Brien cobrien1457@cox.net with any thoughts or comments. Our goal is to have the entire season's menu completed by the second week of May. We will be posting to the clubs website all of the offerings and also give out a food and beverage "welcome packet" on opening day.

Kathy Beam has been working hard to put together a great entertainment package for the club. We are still creating the various food offerings and drink specials to compliment the great performers that will be playing. Stay tuned. Let the countdown to summer begin.

Manager's Minutes

Greetings,

Spring is here, and that means that preparations have begun to get the club up and running for the June opening. I have just come on board and am spending my time getting to know the nooks and crannies of the physical layout, talking to returning staff, and, generally, feeling my way through my first few weeks.

The club fared well this winter, much better than last year I'm told, and will be in tip-top shape for the season. The Farmer's Almanac, which predicted an unusually cold and stormy winter, calls for a sunny, warm summer. Let's hope that their predictions hold true.

I am excited to be the club manager and look forward to continuing the great programs and activities that abound in this club as well as implementing some new ones. I thank the Board of Directors for putting their faith in me.

It is with pleasure that I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Regards,

Deb Kelso

I hope you all enjoy the fresh start that Spring brings to each of you!

Until Next Month,
