Greetings!

Spring must be in the air. Our reputation is spreading and we are getting many new requests for membership. Read on to see what we have been doing, during the off season, to prepare for summer.

Happy Reading!

President's Ponderings

It's an exciting Saturday night in the life of the GBC President, as I sit in my office writing my newsletter blurb before the Membership and Communications Committee hunts me down for it. (Those ladies are tough!) We aren't quite in Tax Season count down mode, and the weather really isn't singing any spring time melodies yet. (It might even snow again on Wednesday?!?!?!) None of that is stopping our progress as we prepare for summer though.

As you read a few weeks ago, Kevin Millonzi and his team are returning this summer, and we are all full speed ahead in the planning - blending our food and drink with our scheduled entertainment, discussing menus for the deck/dugout/dining room, and coordinating with our function clients. The Buildings and Grounds crew is working to finish the Dugout. We have been showing the club to prospective function clients and members several times a week. Our entertainment for the season is all booked. Now, if someone could just talk to Mother Nature...

Please note that we no longer have a mailbox at the club, nor are we using our street address as the mailing address. When sending something to the club, please use PO Box 5627, Wakefield, RI 02880-5627.

Board's Briefs

The last board meeting was held on Thursday March 6, 2014, at Jackie's office and via conference call. Items discussed included:

  • Creating a calendar for events and tasks in our club software, which will be fully operational by opening day.

  • Finalizing share purchase and sale process and documents.
  • Concessionaire scheduled to return for this summer.
  • Financial statements are in line with the budget.
  • Interviews with three General Manger candidates are in the process of being scheduled.
  • Approved a donation to the Wheeler School auction.
  • Scheduling spring maintenance and capital work.
  • Currently have 138 members, no bathhouses or cabanas are available.
Membership's Memos

For any of you who use social media, please like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to assist us with marketing the club and be in the known in between newsletter issues.

Hopefully, everyone has sent in their entire membership fees. The food payment is due May 1st. You may access your account through the club website www.galileebeachclub.com to see your balance. If you need help setting up your account, please send us an e-mail, and the Membership Committee will be happy to assist you.

We are running ahead of last season's numbers for membership at the club but still have a few available. If you have any friends or relatives interested in joining this season, please have them contact us at membership@galileebeachclub.com as soon as possible. If we reach our maximum limit, we will be happy to add them to the wait list for next season. Also, since all bathhouses and cabanas are rented for the season, if you would like to be added to the wait list, please let us know.

Entertainment's Events

We have finalized all of the Saturday night entertainment! We will finish off the summer with a local band Saddle Up the Chickens on August 23rd. Don't be fooled by the name, they will offer some great entertainment! We will close out the summer the way we started with the band Black and White on August 30th. We are looking for a great DJ to play the night of Dancing Under the Stars on August 16th. If anyone has someone they know, please email me at kpbeam5@comcast.net. Get your dancing shoes ready for a fun filled summer.

Building's Blurbs

We are working on scheduling the final Dugout work, including properly finishing the floor and getting all the final décor in place. It is going to be like a whole new Dugout all over again without the hassle of the hurricane! We are also working on scheduling the planned capital improvements at the same time.

Strategic Sessions
The strategic planning committees are continuing to work on creating our futures plans. The summary of each committees work is below.

Who We Are - Marcia Harrop

This task force is currently helping to create the structure which will create our goals and working plan for the coming future.

Food and Beverage Operation - Chris O'Brien

The first meeting of the dining, deck, and Dugout subcommittees was held this weekend. More information will follow, but this is the last call for anyone interested in participating in one of these groups.

Master Plan Task Force - Lisa Fiore

Initial research related to what other clubs offer related to bathhouses and cabanas, as well as pricing has been done.

                                           "TEAM"

                              Together Each Achieve More

Hope everyone has been able to endure the frigid winter. The best part about Rhode Island is that if you don't like the weather today, it will always change tomorrow. We are certainly deserving of a wonderful weather season this summer. With that said, I want to say that I am very excited about the 2014 season as the concessionaire. I want the theme of this year to be "TEAM". I am going to be working diligently with various menu membership committees in the upcoming months to rework our food and beverage offerings to the membership this season. Our ultimate goal is to work together and create the best possible food and beverage experience for the membership that we can. Taking into account the feedback from last season, I believe together we can make the changes that the membership has asked for. Millonzi Fine Catering is going to put a lot of emphasis, this year, on providing a value in the food and beverages offered.

In addition, with the help of the Board of Directors and Entertainment Committee, we are also going to tailor new menus for all of the big weekend nights at the club. The club has put together a great line-up of entertainment with some main stay performers and some great new groups. If you are interested in getting involved with the Food and Beverage Committee, please sign up. The more input the better. You, as the membership, can help shape the food service vision and goals for the Galilee Beach Club.

I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

As you can see we are moving full speed ahead toward our summer season.  Here's hoping that spring somehow is on its way - at least to arrive by April 16th!

Until Next Month,
