Greetings!
Greetings!
Deposits are due, an update about the annual Shareholders' meeting, and a call for volunteers are the items discussed in this newsletter.
Happy Reading!
|
As I write this, I am sitting at a table in the club's dining room, enjoying the sun shining on the water. All three of the strategic planning task forces have met today. So, 20 different members also were able to appreciate our beautiful view while creating plans for our club's future. At our annual meeting last month, all of the shareholders who had volunteered in any capacity over the past twenty years stood up; the majority of the people in the room stood. It is so fitting that it's the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and I get to be thankful for this glorious view and for all of our members who have and currently do volunteer to keep our club the beautiful place that it is.
To see what I was seeing, check our Facebook page for the picture, too, and if you haven't liked our page yet, Chop! Chop!

Secretary's Summations
Any shareholder who would like a copy of the minutes of the October Shareholder meeting, please send a request to secretary@galileebeachclub.com.
The highlights of the annual shareholders meeting were as follows:
- The good and the bad of the past year were reviewed.
- Plans for the next year were highlighted.
- Documentation followed about the numerous hours spent by the volunteer board and committee members over the last year, showing that communication is flowing, matters are being addressed, and the hope that others will be encouraged to join in the process.
- Financials for the year were reviewed. Increase in membership fees will be held to 1% for next season. Highlights from the budget were discussed and the budget approved.
- The finance committee and the board recommended that "despite the increase in valuation of the club's assets, the share price remain unchanged ($15,000 Shareholder; $9,000 Associate Member) for the coming year." This was also approved.
- The board is in the process of adding an amendment to the concessionaire's contract, which was in response to the feedback on the food survey.
- The results from the strategic planning meeting were discussed and an update was presented by each of the strategic task forces: Who We Are, Food, Master Plan.
- Each of the Standing Committees gave an update.
- Building and Grounds update was presented by Joe Fiorenzano. Finish projects for the dugout are waiting for remaining insurance reimbursement. Projects for next year include bathhouse roofs and trim, the back wall of the two beach cabanas, and dining room rug replacement. Estimates are being sought for replacing the kitchen floor and any projects which arise from dealing with that project.
- Function and Marketing update was presented by Jo Curzake. 2013 had 29 functions and 2014 has already 13 events booked with the potential for more bookings.
- Entertainment update was presented by Kathy Beam. Not too much changed in the entertainment from this year to last year. The new sound system will cut down on the need for live entertainment at some events which will contain costs. The committee is open to ideas and suggestions.
- Membership and Communication was presented by Tracy Kubricky. Reports for the 2013 season include a total of 157 members with 19 dining members. There is one share available for sale and four buyout requests, bringing the total to five shares potentially available. Deadlines were reviewed to obtain the full payment discount and to retain cabanas and bathhouses. All members who have been involved over the past year were recognized and thanked for their efforts.
- Finance Committee report was provided by Jackie Tracy. Policy and procedural changes were made to strengthen the internal controls of the Club; point of sale system implemented, and online statement enhancement is now available to all members; land survey is being done; continued to work closely with FEMA and insurance carriers on maximizing the Hurricane Sandy insurance claim. Were successful in holding flood and wind premiums to 2013 pre-storm amounts.
- A call for volunteers for all committees and task forces was made.
- Joe Fiorenzano was recognized for his extraordinary effort during the Sandy reconstruction with the Theresa Donilon Service Award.
- Carolyn Coppolino presented the Nominating Committees report and the slate was approved as presented.
- The revised by-laws were approved.

Treasurer's Tallies
The 2014 Membership applications have been mailed, and you will notice the club is offering a 2% discount for memberships paid in full by December 1st.
After a long eventful fiscal year, thanks in part to Hurricane Sandy, a preliminary look at our 2013 profit and loss statement looks as though we should come in right on forecast. With increasing memberships and private functions forecasted for 2014, our upcoming year should be even better.
I encourage anyone who hasn't seen the online billing and statement feature to do so. In addition to providing members up-to-date balances and activity, it should help our cash flow during the busy summer months.
We would like to take this opportunity to answer a question regarding the "food minimum" charge. Any unused food minimum left over at the end of the season does not go to the concessionaire. The unused minimum goes to the club. We hope this clears up any confusion.
I am looking forward to serving as the treasurer of the Galilee Beach Club. I also welcome any questions or concerns that anyone may have. I can be contacted at Treasurer@galileebeachclub.com

Strategic Sessions
The strategic planning committees all met at the end of November to continue the work, creating our futures plans. The summary of each committees work is below.
Who We Are - Marsha Harrop
The second meeting of the WHO WE ARE committee held on Saturday, November 23rd, was highly productive. Prior to the meeting, each member worked diligently developing ideas to include in our mission, vision, and core value statements. As a result, we came away with a comprehensive draft of all three statements that each member will review and offer suggestions for making revisions prior to our next meeting on Saturday, December 7th. It is our goal to have a final draft to submit to the board shortly thereafter.
Food and Beverage Operation - Chris O'Brien
The Dining Operations Initiative is in the process of reviewing our current business model and investigating possible alternatives. Our goal is to develop a successful, sustainable model that will facilitate an enjoyable member dining experience at the GBC, as well as allow for revenue generation through private functions.
In addition, we will be forming three focus groups, one for each area of GBC dining: Dining Room, Deck, and Dugout. The goal of each focus group will be to develop reasonable expectations about menus, pricing, and service for each dining area. If you have any interest in participating in a focus group, please email Chris O'Brien at cobrien1457@cox.net and indicate which group you would like to be a part.
Master Plan - Lisa Fiore
We have received the land survey and will compile a list of the currently allowed and not allowed uses of our land both as is and if the property is merged. From there, the committee will compare the plans of the "Who We Are" Committee to start building the Master Plan.
