Greetings!
A reminder about our annual meeting and Patriot's Day at the GBC, information about the strategic plan, and a thank you to all of the function elves are items talked about in this issue.
Happy Reading! |
President's Ponderings
Do you know the top three reasons why members originally joined our club and the top three reasons why they stay? I do because I learned it from our Strategic Planning Survey. Beach - Friends/Family - Location are the reasons that people join. Beach - Family/Friends - Location are the reasons that people stay. It's not because of the activities; it's not because of the food; and it's not because we have an ownership opportunity. It's because we get to sit and enjoy our beautiful beach surrounded by our friends and family in a great location. As I mentioned in an earlier newsletter, we are all so blessed to be able to do that, and after reading the survey, it was so nice to see that we all recognize that fact. |
Vice President's Views
We have scheduled a meeting with Kevin Millonzi to discuss food service and specific themes in the food survey. We will have a report about this meeting during the Shareholders Annual meeting and provide more information in the next newsletter. |
Secretary's Summations
The Annual Shareholder Meeting on the 27th of October will require two thirds of our Shareholders to be present or provide proxies in order vote on the proposed By-law revision and board slate. The email notification of the meeting was sent to all shareholders on Thursday. Please contact me at secretary@galileebeachclub.com, if you have not yet receive your notification and the attachments. There is a proxy form with instructions included for your use. Please make sure to return it should you not be able to attend the meeting. |
Treasurer's Tallies
September member statements were mailed this past week. The Board of Directors thanks you for adhering to the club's payment policy this past season as this allows us to meet our vendor, banking, and employee obligations on a timely basis. With any luck, this will be the final month that we will be relying solely on the mailing of member statements. A new on-line feature has been added that will allow members to not only view and print your current month's statement but will give you access to
the most recent twelve (12) months of activity; allow you to send a text message about any questionable transactions; provide live, up to date remaining food minimum amounts; display totals for all types of activity (tax, tip, guest fees, etc.); and will provide the viewing of all transaction slips. Exciting times...
Together with the annual meeting notice, the Board of Directors sent to its Shareholders the proposed 2014 Budget (with related assumptions). We are pleased to announce that due to strong fiscal oversight this past season, the proposed Budget only calls for a 1% increase in dues and fees for the 2014 season. Please review this important document and do feel free to contact me at Treasurer@galileebeachclub.com with any questions.
An inventory of our fixed assets is planned during the month of October to verify the accuracy of our property records.
The land survey of our property boundaries was conducted the week of October 7th to evaluate the merger issue and to understand the future potential for expansion/improvements on the club's properties. |
Board's Briefs
The board met on Thursday, October 3rd at the Club. Some of the issues discussed were:
- Agenda was finalized for the strategic planning session.
- The current year financials are on target to make budget and collections are on track.
- We are still waiting for insurance company reimbursements for a couple of items. Once those are received, the remaining Dugout projects will be scheduled and completed.
- Passed the motion from the Finance Committee that, despite the increase in valuation of the club's assets, the share prices should remain the same for the coming year. This motion will be presented at the annual meeting.
- The final by-law changes were approved and will be forwarded to the attorney for review. The by-laws will be presented for vote at the annual meeting. The by-laws will be sent out in advance of the meeting with an index and explanation of the proposed changes.
- The Buildings and Grounds budget includes the cost of a new dining room rug. The new rug will be commercial grade and an appropriate color to withstand heavy dining room traffic.
- Chris O'Brien will work on the Functions and Marketing Committee helping with the marketing and doing some function market research.
- Training for the club's web-based calendar and online billing will be held during October.
- Property Survey results are expected shortly.
- Stock Re-purchase and Re-Sale Plan has been further updated to include the process to request the purchase or sale of a share.
- Adjusting the food minimum to include the tax and tip portion was discussed as this appeared to cause confusion on the current year bills. It was determined that the upfront minimum payment would remain unchanged.
- Budget was revised from last meeting's discussion, and the membership fee increase has been lowered from the originally calculated 6% down to 1%. The budget was then passed by the board and will be presented at the annual meeting.

Membership's Memos
Unused minimums: Any unused minimum may be applied to food & drinks on the Patriot's Day event on October 27th, 2013. Please send your reservations to reservations@galileebeachclub.com. See concessionaire section for menu and pricing. The Dugout is also scheduled to be open.
Please pay attention to all payment deadlines. If you had a bathhouse, cabana, or apartment in 2013, you are not guaranteed one for 2014. Shareholders/Associates take precedent over regular members. When the deadlines for payment pass, the membership committee will fill any requests for bathhouses, cabanas, and apartments from the waiting lists. If you are interested in becoming a shareholder or associate member, please contact membership@galilleebeachclub.com.
Shareholders: Please remember, you need to be in "good standing" (September bill must be paid in full) to attend and vote at the shareholders meeting. If there are any questions regarding your status, please send an email to membership.

Function's Fan Fare
The post-season has been very busy with many functions. The dining room and deck are the most rented spaces, especially for weddings. Almost all wedding couples are having their ceremonies on the beach, as well.
Our newly renovated Dugout has great appeal for people renting for class reunions, clambakes and fire pits, birthday parties, and even political fundraisers. In the spring, there will be graduation parties. The "Dugout" and the beach will be ideal for those parties.
Thanks to all for being mindful of the events on the beach.
I would also like to thank those members who helped to put fire pits and chairs out onto the beach and away after the events. Jackie has become quite proficient at this task as well as Donald and Tracy Kubricky, Marcia and Dan Harrop, my husband, John, and Lisa and Bob Fuest. Marcia Harrop also has been watering the flowers and keeping the gardens looking well-kept, which makes a good impression on our clients and their guests and is one reason the club has repeat customers.
Next year, there are many events booked for June and September, and others are booked in May and October.
Chris O'Brien has volunteered to be my committee of one to do the marketing for the Galilee Beach Club. He is already hard at work on this task. |
Entertainment's Events
Patriot's Day at the GBC will be held immediately after the Annual Shareholders Meeting. All members of all ages are invited to this event. Please see the Concessionaire section below for details about the menu. Hope to see you there! |

Thank you to the 82 people who responded to our survey and helped give us some background to guide us as we move forward with our plans. As a reminder, the three (3) strategic initiatives that were decided upon to guide us through the strategic process are as follows:

One of the questions on the strategic planning survey was to describe the GBC to a potential new member. I thought I would share some of the responses with you because so many of them made me smile.
"Great facility for the beach enthusiast"
"Nice beach and nice people"
"The view is beautiful, the facility is cozy, the food is good and you get quality for a good price."
"A family friendly place with a nice view and safe beach for the kids."
"The GBC is a warm, welcoming club with both family and adult activities. It is the only place to spend the summer because it is like our own paradise."
I hope they made you think of some of your fun GBC memories with your friends and family and that you smiled too!
Until Next Month,
Jacquelyn H. Tracy
