President's Ponderings
I had two reminders of gratitude this morning. I did a shift serving breakfast at Amos House, which always reminds me about the many blessings in my life: a roof over my head, eating whatever I want for breakfast, people who love (and tolerate me), and, of course, a view of the ocean. While driving home, I saw one of the billboards from the new PR campaign that read, "It's all in our backyard." It made me say to myself, "RI is a beautiful place to be. I am so lucky that I get to see the ocean and I can travel all the way to the city and back in one morning."
This campaign was a by-product of Rhode Island Foundation's Make It Happen RI initiative that happened this winter. The initiative was an acknowledgement that RI has some issues, but Rhode Islanders can figure out ways to solve those issues and also tout all that we have going for us. And then, I also said to myself, "Self, there is the start of your President's message for this week's newsletter." Some days at the beach are better than others and every year brings its own set of challenges. Please know that the entire board is aware of this year's set of challenges and, as always, is working on ways to improve our overall operation. Suggestions, comments, feedback are always appreciated so that we can help improve the club. Please don't think that we don't take your comments to heart and also let me tout a little to remind us that it's still a day at the beach. As my mother used to say, "We are so lucky that we get to watch the boats go by and smell the fresh sea air." When you think about it, it makes you grateful, doesn't it?
If you want to check out the "It's all in our backyard" campaign click here for their website. It's pretty neat. And remember, the GBC and our beautiful surroundings are part of those great things in RI's backyard! |
Membership's Memos
Bathhouses & Cabanas: We have been getting quite a few inquiries from prospective and current members requesting bath houses and cabanas for next season. Please keep in mind the information located in the policy manual:
"CABANAS/APARTMENTS AND BATHHOUSES:
Shareholders/Associates take priority over seasonal members and thus have first right of refusal to rent the cabana/apartment and/or bathhouse rented the previous year. This is also true even if the unit(s) were previously rented by a seasonal member. Seasonal members may retain their cabana/apartment and/or bathhouse unless there is a Shareholder/Associate who takes priority. Cabanas and bathhouses will be rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment history will be considered when approving rentals."
If you have any questions, please contact the Membership Committee at: membership@galileebeachclub.com.
Just a reminder- through Labor Day weekend, we will have a food collection for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. If you are packing up your summer house for the season, please consider bringing in your non-perishables to be donated. Look for the posters and collection bins starting this weekend. |
Entertainment's Events
This weekend will feature a summer favorite with Dancing Under the Stars. On Saturday, Carrie and her crew will be creating a large dance floor on the beach tor some great dancing to Carolina Sound. Kevin is putting together an amazing menu to make the night complete. The dancing will be from 7pm-11pm, so make your reservations now! On Friday night, we will have our fire pits, and Sunday we will have Beach Soccer for the kids from 1pm-2pm.
Looking ahead, on August 21st, we will have another movie/karaoke night after the family Italian Dinner. The movie will start at 7pm, and we will feature the original High School Musical Movie. The last movie night was so much fun you don't want to miss out! On Saturday the 24th, we will feature Dave Andrews from 8pm-11pm for a comedy/music night. Dave has performed all over Boston at many top clubs. It promises to be a fun night. We will also have Kara back that day for Krafts in the Dugout from 1pm-3pm. On Sunday the 25th, we will once again have the Operatisti at 6pm. There will not be a pasta dinner this night, so we can have this summer tradition.
Lastly, mark your calendars for a jam packed Labor Day Weekend. We will start things off with another Adult Clambake on Friday night, the Jazz Strollers on Saturday night, and a family barbeque and bonfire on Sunday! Hope to see you all a lot in these last few weeks of summer. |
Building's Blurbs
August Contest - Photo contest of scenes from the local area. The winning shots will be framed and hung in the Dugout this fall and will be on display starting next season. Again there is no age minimum, age limit, or limit to the number of entries you have. To enter, get out your camera and take some local pictures (the rocks, the club itself, the light house, sand, rocks, the marsh, etc., etc.), then send the electronic file(s) to president@galileebeachclub.com. We will have several winners in this contest, so fell free to enter multiple times throughout the month. All entries must be received by Friday, August 30th, and the winners will be announced at the end of the summer BBQ. The selection will be done blindly by our judging committee. Good luck! |

Manager's Minutes
Well, here we are; another week down and what a week it was. We had fun with Rob at the Paddle Board Clinic, Sno Kone's on the beach, and the sun came to visit as we listened to music.
We have another fun week planned with soccer on the beach, Dancing under the Stars, and cool crafts planned for the kids.
Also, we have a few t-shirts, sweatshirts, and polo shirts in stock for sale. Come get yours while they last! |
|
This week, if you cannot find me, look for the pink and white paddleboard with me in the matching outfit. Hang ten!!
Until Next Time,
Jacquelyn H. Tracy
