Greetings!
Greetings!
Did someone say, "Swimming, swimming, swimming?" There was swimming with Nemo, Dory, and friends tonight at movie night, and then Karaoke. Hope you were able to come. Don't forget to enter our July contest and make a nomination (for yourself or someone else) for a board position before next Wednesday. Keep reading for this week's other news.
Happy Reading! |
President's Ponderings
So, my phone rang last night, and it was Chris O'Brien from the Buildings and Grounds Committee telling me that the alarm at the club was going off. I walked him through the alarm cancellation process, and we got it shut off. Our entertainer had come to check out the club in advance of his Saturday night gig and somehow tripped the alarm. I spent the next few minutes writing the ProJo headline that might have been if Chris hadn't been there when this occurred. As I have been since October, I am grateful for all the people, like Chris, who see this as their club and aren't afraid to help out when needed. If you aren't following me, then be sure to check out the Events section to see who is playing on Saturday, and then make your reservations to listen to both my sister's and my high school chorus teacher. Then say along with me, "Only in RI!" |
Treasurer's Tallies
Billing Statements - Member statements were mailed last week for the month of June. In the future, these statements will be made available earlier in the month. We are still working out a few "bugs" but certain improvements to these statements have been made in July and will be reflected on the next billing cycle. We continue to work toward offering of on-line access of member statements and billing activity.
Budgeting - Well.... it may still be July, but work has commenced on the 2014 Annual Budget. You may ask, "Why is so much attention given to this document at such an early date?" In simple terms, budgeting is a basic and essential process that allows the club to attain its goals. The club has several goals that it seeks to achieve when it creates and implements a budget. These goals include evaluation, planning, and communication. Perhaps the most obvious of the budgeting goals is that of control and evaluation. Budgeting allows the club to have a certain degree of control over costs or assigning responsibility for these expenses. A budget also gives the club a benchmark by which to evaluate various departments. Planning and allocating resources is another purpose of budgeting and is arguably its primary purpose. Budgeting allows us to take stock of revenue and expenditures from previous periods and to bridge a plan for where the club will be in future periods, i.e. it is a vehicle for forecasting. Another goal our club may use its budget to achieve a less obvious reason, communication. Budgeting allows the Board and its Committees to communicate goals so resources can be focused in key areas. Although budgeting is a procedure that most business go through, it can be a greater tool than many people realize. The budgeting process can allow us to communicate and achieve goals and allow us to monitor these achievements as well. It is also an important step in overall business strategic planning.
Hope this gives you a little insight into this all important document. |

Membership's Memos
The membership committee would like to thank everyone for referring new members to the club. There are a limited number of walk on memberships still available. We do have openings for dining memberships this season for $200 plus a $300 food minimum. If you know anyone who has an interest, please send us an email to membership@galileebeachclub.com
In order to avoid two seafood buffets in the same week, the caterer switched the menu for the July 31st & August 7th. We hope this isn't an inconvenience. |

See the food section for more details about the food.
On Sunday, we will have Beach Soccer for the kids from 1-2PM. We will also have Dave Andrews performing on the beach from 3-6PM. This will liven things up during Sips and Dips along with the special raw bar on the deck. The raw bar will be an additional cost.

Building's Blurbs
The committee is in the process of estimating and budgeting capital and repair projects for next year so they can be included in the 2013/2014 budget.
Don't forget to enter our contests:
July Contest - Name the bar corner of the Dugout! Please send your suggestions to Jackie's email at president@galileebeachclub.com by noon on July 31st; she will then provide the suggestions to the judging committee (and no, we aren't telling who it is) who will pick the winning name for that area of the Dugout.
August Contest - This will be a photo contest of scenes from the local area. The winning shots will be framed and hung in the dugout this fall and next season. More details will follow about the submissions, but start taking your snapshots now. |
