Board of Directors

Greetings!

Due to tax season, we are a little off schedule, but don't worry we are back on track now!

Happy Reading!

President's Ponderings

Since I am still in CPA mode, let's do this by the numbers -

First, let me apologize for not keeping up with our newsletter schedule, but please know just because I was stuck in the office doing taxes, things GBC related were not at a standstill! Since the last newsletter, we finalized the contracts for both our Manager and our Concessionaire. See below for notes from both Carrie and Kevin. We have also been moving along on the various pieces of Project Sandy. See the Buildings and Grounds section for more details on what has been done. We have also done a full inventory of the contents of the clubhouse (forks, knives, pots, pans, etc.) and as part of Project Sandy will be doing an update of the club's fair market value appraisal. At our next Shareholder's meeting, we will be able to present a more complete balance sheet of what each ownership share actually owns.

Second, I know that I have been truly been off-line, but some crazy rumors have been making their way to me. Since I can only imagine which ones haven't been making their way to me, I thought I would address the ones that I have heard.

  • No, the beach club has not fallen into the ocean. No, it has not been fully destroyed. Yes, we will be open for business as usual (How else would I eat all summer?). So, yes if you haven't paid your bill, you need to do so. Remember the food minimum is due May 1st and everything else should be paid by now. If you know someone who might want to try our club while their club is offline this summer, send them to our website www.galileebeachclub.com to check us out and to complete an application.   Don't forget we have dinner memberships - please see the Membership and Communications section for more information on this.
  • No, our Concessionaire is not going to serve food only for the month of June (again what would I eat?). Kevin and his team will be handling our membership events all summer and has already starting meeting with our function clients to develop the menus for their events. Not only are they going to work with us this summer, but they signed a two-year contract and will be working with us next summer as well.
  • No, all the staff who worked with us in the past have not refused to return. Carrie has met with many of the lifeguards, parking lot attendants, etc. and many of them are returning. You will be seeing many familiar faces - including Rory.

Third, going forward if you have a question, any question, please ask it. Just send it to [email protected], and I will do my best to answer it or forward it to the person who can answer it. I promise.

Fourth, now can the Spring weather come??

Treasurer's Tallies

During March all energy was being focused on the installation of the Food and Beverage point of sale system and general accounting package.  As an update, all required hardware (server, terminals and printers) has been acquired and/or upgraded and was installed and operational the week of March 11-15.  All the necessary communication and security links through Cox Communications have been successfully completed.  Finally, the Club Systems Group modules (general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and food/beverage) are being mapped out and will be completed before formal training commences. Training in the various modules took place the week of March 18th and is "live" now in April.  Aggressive plan and time-table?  Yes - but with our hardworking volunteers (Addie Knight, Jackie Tracy and Tracy and Betsy Kubricky) and our in-house bookkeeper (Karen Tucker), I am pleased to report that we completed everything ahead of schedule.

Board's Briefs

The April meeting was deferred from its regularly scheduled date and the board is doing a round robin of committee and activity updates via email. Prior to the May meeting, the board will receiving an update regarding the Dugout's progress in a conference call to be scheduled soon.

Membership's Memos

We have a limited number of walk-on memberships still available. We also have Dining memberships available. A Dining membership allows for parking (except July 3rd) and use of the restaurants for lunch and dinner. It also allows for attendance at entertainment events during the season. They are restricted from using the beach with this type of membership. If you know someone interested, please have them send an email to [email protected] or call us at 789-9675.

Entertainment's Events

We are continuing to fill the summer calendar with many exciting events for all ages!!! We are looking for your thoughts as we fill in some of the dates still left open. Would you please respond via email  and let us know:

  • Do you enjoy live entertainment on the beach during the day on Saturday and Sunday, every weekend, occasionally, or not at all?
  • How important is live music to your Friday Night Fire experience, very important, important, or not at all?
  • Would you prefer background music some Friday nights instead of live music?
Building's Blurbs

The new dugout door has been installed. If you have been to the club, you will notice that we swapped the positions of a window and a door. This centers the door more from the outside and will improve the flow of the food service in the dugout. The roof repair was completed and the insurance agency approved a full roof replacement which is in the process of being scheduled. The quotes have been submitted for the repair of the beach level cabana. The snow fences have been installed around the dunes which will aid in the repopulation of the dunes and the dune grasses. The interior design plans for the dugout have been completed and have been submitted to the building inspector for approval and inspection. In the meantime, the dugout has been fully gutted and our general contractor has lined up the subcontractors (electrician, plumber, floor layer, etc.) and has ordered the supplies. The deck has been shored up and the pilings haven been poured.   The next Buildings and Grounds Committee is scheduled for Saturday, April 20th at the club.

Manager's Minutes

Hello All,

My first official act as the Galilee Beach Club General Manager was to hire a snow plow to clear the parking lot for the delivery of the dugout windows, not exactly what I thought I would be doing at a Beach Club, but whatever needs to be done is what I am here for.

A lot has happened since then; I have met with general contractors, so they can measure out the Dug Out for new floors, shutters, and all sorts of new and exciting upgrades for the board to discuss. The Crocuses have bloomed, spring is finally here, and with that, the club is coming to life. Rugs are being cleaned, paint is being touched up, and the outside is being cleaned after a long, hard winter all in preparation for our first event.

I have spoken with last year's staff and most of them will be returning, as well as a few new ones. Children's events have been booked, as well as new, weekly activities are being planned to provide a fun-filled summer for all members.

I am excited to have the opportunity to meet each and every one of you and spend the summer is such a beautiful place.

See you soon,

Carrie Grimm

Food Footnotes

Kevin Millonzi and his team at Millonzi Fine Catering are looking forward to serving both members and outside client events at the Galilee Beach Club for the 2013 season. Upcoming events for members will include a kick off cook out on Father's Day June 16th; keep an eye out for theme nights such as wine tastings and luaus. It has been a pleasure so far working with the Board and the new club manager, Carrie. We look forward to building a lasting relationship with all the members! Here's to this season with many sunny days and wonderful memories to be made!

Thanks for your patience in waiting for this issue.

Until Next Month (or later on this one!),
