Corporal Punishment Survey
Greetings!
As we work towards updating and changing laws in the VI Code, we are eager to get constituent feedback on issues facing our community. Currently, we are working on amending the VI Code on Corporal Punishment.
Webster's Dictionary defines Corporal Punishment as:
- : punishment applied to the body of an offender including the death penalty, whipping, and imprisonment
- : punishment administered by an adult (as a parent or a teacher) to the body of a child ranging in severity from a slap to a spanking
The current VI Code reads as follows:
"All principals and teachers in the public schools shall have the right to exercise the same authority, as to conduct, and behaviour, over pupils attending their schools during the time they are in attendance, including the time required in going to and from their homes, as parents, guardians or persons in parental relations to such pupils."
If you are a (current or former) student, parent, teacher, principal, school faculty member or just simply someone who is concerned about our education system, please take a few minutes to fill out our survey on Corporal Punishment. We really need your input and opinions.

Much love,
