Senator Judi Buckley Progress Report Feb 19, 2013

Greetings!

It certainly has been a busy couple of weeks!  In addition to preparing for this week's Finance and Health/Human Services/Hospitals & Veterans Affairs committee meetings on St Thomas, I've continued to meet with various constituents and stakeholders in the community.

I had the privilege of assisting Evelyn Williams' Principal, Dr. Jackson, in awarding the Honor Roll recipients their certificates.  I was very pleased to witness so many proud parents there to cheer on their favorite student, and was encouraged by the warm welcome we received.

Following that ceremony we drove down the road to witness the grand opening of the VI National Guard's 210 RTI (Regional Training Institute).  Thanks to our federal partners and outstanding VI leadership, St. Croix is now home to a world class state-of-the-art training facility that will host and train military members from all over the Caribbean.  Way to go VING!!

Much love,

Senator Judi Buckley

St Croix Hotel & Tourism Meeting
Senator Buckley served as Keynote Speaker at The Buccaneer Hotel

I was privileged to be asked to be the Keynote speaker at the St Croix Hotel & Tourism's general membership meeting on Tuesday February 12th at The Buccaneer Hotel which was well attended by private sector stakeholders in the respective area of hotel and tourism.

This was actually my first public speaking engagement since being sworn into the 30th Legislature of the US Virgin Islands. I used this forum to review my platform, to discuss the various committees that I have been assigned to and several of the initiatives that I have been working on to date. I was joined at the end of my speech by Senator Gittens to field questions by the general membership that included concerns with senate attendance at committee meetings, public safety, proposed bills and more. I encouraged members of the audience to contact our office with any additional questions or concerns that they had or may have in the future. I committed to holding an open door policy and to maintaining a two-way dialog about the issues that face our island and our territory.

Public Services Commission
Calling her first meeting of Public Services Commission this past Tuesday, "an eye opening and learning experience," Senator Judi Buckley said while her hopes that the Commission and the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority could come to a compromise were only partially fulfilled, she has been encouraged by the results thus far...
