Current News at UUCW
That All May Be Welcome - Accessibility and Inclusion Ministryaimnews

The AIM (Accessibility and Inclusion Ministry) team that has recently been formed at UUCW is working on a specific task; to complete a process that will lead to UUA certification as an AIM congregation. Long before we entered the certification process we had an Accessibility Task Force that identified and completed many action items including physical changes to our building to make it more accessible. We also worked on environmental and chemical sensitivity awareness, accessible material for people with low vision, and awareness of neurological, emotional and psychological issues. Over a decade ago, we installed an FM Assistive Listening System for people who are hard of hearing.

One major physical change has been to cut one of the pews in the sanctuary to allow a person who uses a wheelchair to sit among the congregation. Up to that point, wheelchair users had to find a space somewhere in the back of the sanctuary. We repurposed some of the wood removed from the pew to install a railing alongside the pulpit to provide assistance up the steps to the chancel. We recently asked for feedback from one of our congregants who is currently using the space. A suggestion was to further modify the end of the pew to reduce the barrier between the wheelchair user and the person sitting beside them in the pew. We are grateful to Bart Hill for his excellent craftsmanship in making these improvements to our sanctuary.

Since the FM Assistive Listening System was installed about 15 years ago, we have offered only one training/demonstration on how to use the various components of the system. We, therefore, have scheduled a training/demonstration for Sunday, May 29,  immediately following the service. All are welcome to learn and experience how they might benefit from this system. We especially invite people who have been using the system to attend and provide feedback on their experiences.

Please also note that a Sunday service highlighting our accessibility and inclusion ministry is being planned for May 29th. We hope you will be excited to learn more about this important ministry in our church.

We also welcome people to join the AIM team which includes Susan Crossley, Janet Cutman, Beau Rivers, Judy Savage, Sharon Templeman and Joan Webster

Summer Services Ministry Team FormingSummerSvc

Our series of Summer Sunday Services will begin on June 26 and run through September 4.  Services are at 10 am. This series of 11 services is typically lay-led and often followed by a roaming fellowship hour/lunch at a local restaurant.  Our Summer Services Ministry Team seeks Presenters, people to offer a Summer Service presentation on a topic of your own choosing; people to serve as Sunday Assistants who would work with the presenter of the week to set up the lounge space and to help present parts of the service as desired by the presenter, and Service Coordinators who would be responsible for opening and closing the building, taking attendance, submitting pew sheets and securing the offering for the day.  If you are interested in serving in any of these capacities, please CLICK HERE.

We're looking to form a UUWC group to walk.  Sponsor/donation packets will be available in fellowship hall after church.

Aaron's 25th Ordination Anniversary - Sunday, June 5, 2016AaronOrdin

It has been 25 years since Aaron was ordained as a minister and plans are underway to celebrate the occasion!

It will take place during church on Sunday, June 5th (Annual Meeting is June 5th also, so there are two important events that Sunday.) We'd like you to participate!

If you want to help with the party planning process, or have ideas about it, please let Mara know.

If you were here 17 years ago when Aaron came to UUCW we'd love for you to share your memories with Mara.

And finally, you can congratulate Aaron on this. He knows about the plans!
Thanks - Mara Pentlarge 508 963-8683
