We Will Create A Web of Connection
Robin Mitzcavitch, Director of Religious Education & Exploration

"Forever Weaving the Great Web"

As Unitarian Universalists, we celebrate the importance and value of connection.  We include in our 7 principles, respect for the interconnected web of life in which we are all a part.  During the month of May the children will ask themselves and the larger community the question: What are ways to connect with ourselves, our roots, our community, the earth,  and all the elements in the world in which we love and strive to care for?

With leaders Nora Werme, and Jane McKeag , children will be architects as we build a "web" in the front yard of the church so we can introduce a community weaving project to our whole church and community.    The children will be preparing materials, weaving, and learning about connection through art (Community Weave Project), poetry (with Laura Secor and Debra Zawielski) and humor (With Ana Gregory) .

How We Connect Through Humor

This past Sunday, in honoring mothers and the people who care for us and others in our lives, we had a "Tying Meditation"  People wrote names of their loved ones, or set intentions into the colorful strips of cloth , and tied pieces onto the beginning "warp" lines of the web.  It was beautiful to see the little strips of cloth, waving in the breeze, like tiny prayer flags.

Once the web is built, all members of the church and community will be encouraged to connect and add their thoughts and intentions through tying and weaving in materials.
We hope to create a beautiful display for all to appreciate and feel connected through.

We envision participation from different communities who utilize our church.  We serve over 60 families here each month with the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry; this month we'll ask those food pantry clients and our volunteers to participate in the weaving.  How meaningful and appropriate it will be to look at the contributions of all the people we connect with woven together in an artful web of community and love.

Check it out, share with friends and family and become a part of it!
