Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.

[The following arrived by email on Monday. A poignant testimony to the power and continuing  impact of a moment in time when the world was once again shaken by violence. Aaron]

On April 4th, 1968, 48 years ago today (it seems like an eternity), Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot to death in Memphis, TN.  He was 39 years old.

For those of us active in the civil rights movement in the 60's it seemed a cataclysmic and overwhelming loss. Martin Luther King, Jr. dramatically changed the course of history - not alone - no one does this alone. But, he spoke eloquently to the nation and walked a position of strength and leadership for his people and for those that were sympathetic to his causes without fear, and he gave voice and hope to millions.

I remember the moment that Bob and I learned of his death and the feeling of loss that gripped us. I remember holding our dear Tamara and baby Tina and weeping together and wondering how our little world could be a safe place for our little family.

Thanks for letting me share.
