What is Mystery Pals?
Mystery Pals are pairs of pals made up of one young person and one adult or teen who do not know each other's identity. This is a multi-generational community-building project that has shown great success in many other UU communities, and this year, we have decided to try it. This project is closely managed by the Religious Education Committee.  Pals who sign up to participate and are matched to each other by the committee.

What do Mystery Pals do?  Mystery Pals communicate with each other through the exchange of notes, drawn pictures, cards, riddles, puzzles, baby pictures, hints about identity, and small trinkets.   The main thing is to stay in touch and remain a mystery! All communication is managed by the RE Committee.

How do Mystery Pals keep in touch?  In January and February paper bag mailboxes with your secret #  will be in the Fellowship Hall.    Keep your number a secret!  Put notes or whatever you are giving each week in the Pal's bag. The Religious Education Committee will ensure that everyone recieves their communication weekly after the notes have been reviewed!

When do the Pals find out the identity of each other?  Identities will be revealed during our Mystery Pal Reveal Party on Feb 18th directly after the service.    FUN FUN FUN.  It's all about the connections we make in the world!!  Sign up on December 7th with Jenny Delgizzi.

2015 La Romana Medical Mission Trip
- Steve Brodeur, First Church Sterling

Members of the First Church in Sterling and volunteers from throughout Central Massachusetts are traveling to La Romana, Dominican Republic this February to provide medical and dental services to impoverished Haitian workers and their families living in the Dominican Republic. We are also working to complete the building of a hospital to serve the same population. For almost 20 years, with the help of many, this mission has been able to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve. However, much work remains. Please consider helping in any of the following ways.

  • Monetary Donations - The volunteers participating in this mission fund their own travel expenses. 100% of all funds received will be used to purchase medical supplies, medications, food for distribution, water filtration supplies and other items to provide the services so desperately needed. Checks may be made out to First Church in Sterling, memo "La Romana Mission", First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Rd., Sterling, MA, 01564.
  • Supplies for the Mission Trip - Donations can be dropped off at the Church office or contact Doug Davis at 978-265-7547. Currently we are requesting:
    • Adult & Children's Pain relievers (Tylenol, Advil, Aleve)
    • Vitamins - Children's Chewable (not gummy)
    • Adult Multi Vitamins w/Iron
    • Antibiotic & Anti-Fungal creams
    • Tums
  • Silent Auction items - A Silent Auction will be held as part of the Caribbean Dinner fundraiser on January 17, 2015.  To make the Auction successful, we are looking for a wide variety of items.  Some great items from the past have included airline tickets, sporting event tickets, restaurant gift certificates, as well as handmade art or crafts. Please drop off donations at the Church office or contact Linda Davis at 978-660-6587 for pick up or if you have any questions.

Please give as generously as you are able. This is a tax deductible donation and your gift of money or goods will make a huge difference for these impoverished people.

Thank you for any help you are able to give.
