Sharon Higgins in Huffington

Don't miss this great piece by PAA co-founder Sharon Higgins in the Huffington Post this week. Sharon responds to a letter from the head of the Texas charter school association who in turn wrote about a Huffington story on the Killing Ed movie. Killing Ed exposes the Turkish sect, the Gulen movement, behind the Concept/Harmony schools, the largest charter school chain in the U.S.

Sharon points out that the charter school official never mentioned the Gulen connection, which is characteristic of the secretive operation of this chain. She points out that parents are rarely made fully aware of the background of the school operators and their use of the schools as job placement centers for members of their group, nor the way the schools imbed Turkish culture throughout the curriculum. Parents choosing to send their children to one of the Gulen schools, then, are not making an informed choice.

Keep speaking the truth, Sharon!

If you share our overall goals of progressive, positive education reform and more parent input in education policy making, we invite you to affiliate with us if you are an existing group, or to form a new PAA chapter. The more of us there are, the stronger our voice will be at every level. Here's how!
