PAA co-founder leads inBloom pushback in NY
PAA co-founder Leonie Haimson testified at a New York City Council hearing this week detailing concerns about New York State's plans to share student data without parental consent. New York is the only state that requires data collection from all students, but similar programs
are being carried out or planned in other districts.

PAA Illinois group to meet Oct 11
A new PAA-based group, Illinois Friends of Public Education, will hold a noon forum on school funding on Friday, Oct. 11 in Chicago. The guest speaker will be Ralph Martire, the director of the Illinois-based Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, and a leading proponent of equitable school funding and tax reform.
The group was convened last July by PAA co-founder Julie Woestehoff.
A brief planning meeting will follow the forum. Please RSVP to Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org. Details here.
If you share our overall goals of progressive, positive education reform and more parent input in education policy making, we invite you to affiliate with us if you are an existing group, or to form a new PAA chapter. The more of us there are, the stronger our voice will be at every level. Here's how!
