On behalf of Orange County, we thank you for joining us at the 2016 Economic Summit at the Orange County Convention Center's new Tangerine Ballroom.

Now in its fourth year, the Economic Summit is hosted annually and provides an annual barometer on the economy and highlights the region's strong business sectors and growing industries. This year's Summit was attended by more than 650 citizens and business leaders eager to hear about the region's flourishing economy. What began as an exploratory Job Summit Series, when I first took office in 2011, has grown into one of the region's most anticipated business events for community leaders and citizens alike.

Nationally recognized economist Sean Snaith, Ph.D., director of the University of Central Florida's Institute for Economic Competitiveness, provided his annual economic forecast at the Summit and noted that the 2015 economy ended on a strong note with job creation not just in leisure and hospitality, but also in other high-paying sectors. Rick Weddle, president and CEO of Orlando Economic Development Commission, provided an Economic Update on the region and presented a video titled the Orlando EDC's Year of Opportunity.

This year, the Summit also featured a Technology Entrepreneur Panel, which included Donna Mackenzie, executive director of FireSpring Fund; Josh Brown, founder and CEO of PowerDMS; Phil Dumas, founder of Unikey Technologies; and Richard Licursi, managing partner and co-founder of venVelo.

The panel gave an overview of the County's growing technology ecosystem and highlighted what is needed to position Orange County as the nation's hub for innovative entrepreneurship providing high paying jobs and economic advancement. Fred Kittinger, associate vice president of university relations and director of state and local government affairs at the University of Central Florida, presided as the event's Master of Ceremonies.

Immediately following the Economic Summit, I joined our tech community to host the inaugural Florida TechMatch, which paves the way for local tech companies to build relationships and contracts with national industry leaders. Established as a result of the creative brainstorming of Carlos Carbonell, CEO of Echo Interaction Group and president of Orlando Tech Association, TechMatch is a natural continuation of our Economic Summit series, because it encourages established companies to learn about the unique skills and innovations that are happening throughout Central Florida.
During Florida TechMatch, more than 80 small- and medium-sized businesses tech vendors met with 30 enterprise-level buyers representing companies and organizations like NBC Universal, Bright House Networks, the University of Central Florida and healthcare organizations.

Thank you for making the 2016 Economic Summit a success! I look forward to our continued  work together.
