Mark Sorrell, President
2012-2013 |
President's Message
It is hard to believe 2013 is already upon us and going fast. We had a great joint meeting with NAIFA featuring Dick Weber, our national president to get our year going. I hope everyone will join us at our upcoming Awards Banquet. This is always a highlight for the Society as we have a chance to honor those who have exemplified the standards to which we all aspire. This year we will be honoring Brian Cororve with the Clark McCleary Scholarship and Bill Swalick with the "Woody" Woodson Award. Both are very deserving. Our speaker is James Mallon, the President and CEO of American General Life. I know it will be a great evening. If you haven't made reservations, please do so right away.
I am also excited about our luncheons going forward. Two timely topics we will be discussing in coming months are the ramifications of the tax changes due to the fiscal cliff discussion and we are also going to have an expert on the new healthcare laws going into effect. Each of these topics are very timely and impact each of us and our clients every day. I know I am looking forward to learning more about each of these. I hope to see you there. |

Glenn Neasham Amicus Curiae Fund
SOCIETY OF FSP NATIONAL WEIGHS IN
At the January joint NAIFA-SFSP luncheon, Richard M. "Dick" Weber, MBA, CLU, AEP (Distinguished), National President of Society FSP, discussed the Glenn Neasham case.
Glenn, a successful insurance agent in California, was convicted of grand theft for the sale of an indexed annuity. The facts are disturbing: the client was competent, and the annuity was approved and appropriate for her age. The client never complained but instead testified she was happy with the annuity. Glenn was prosecuted on an elder abuse report by a bank teller after the client withdrew funds to purchase the annuity.
Dick dissects the crucial elements of the case in a live interview of lawyers and agents: The Glenn Neasham Case: Lessons Learned, free to FSP members.
Glenn's appeal is pending, and Society FSP National is submitting an amicaus curiae brief. Donations to that effort are welcome. Send your checks (payable to SFSP) to-
