THE TEMPLE A PAUL MITCHELL PARTNER SCHOOL'S GIVE BACK TO GET BACK SCHOLARSHIP

At the October WGC Luncheon, Sharon Riser, Director, The  Temple A Paul Mitchell Partner School presented two Beauty Education Scholarships in collaboration with the Women's Giving Circle.

Give Back to Get Back Scholarships provides financial assistance to full-time or part-time students, who are Maryland residents, and are enrolled within health or human services programs in Frederick County. This scholarship supports the Frederick County community by providing the opportunity to be a part of the amazing beauty industry just as the Women's Giving Circle supports the community. The value of each scholarship is $16,350.00

Jamila Pierce was the first recipient and was recommended by her sponsor Linda Ryan with Hope Alive. Currently , Jamila is a participant in Hope Alive program and has always dreamed of owning her own salon.

She has joined the recent October Full-Time Class at the Temple a Paul Mitchell Partner School. She is a single mother and wishes to be a role model for her children, and hopes this education opportunity takes her to her dreams.

Issi Bowins, was the second recipient and was recommend by her sponsor Ann  Ryan, with Project Alive with the Frederick County Housing Authority. As a Single mother she dreams to work with her Aunt that owns a salon and wishes to learn how to carry on especially since she has a ten year old daughter that also wants to be a hairstylist. She shared that the only thing barrier standing in her way was a financial barrier, with this scholarship opportunity she will be able to follow her dreams.

I Am (Not) My Mother
The amazing journey of I am (Not) My Mother really began with the mother/daughter story circles many of you participated in. Your wonderful candid stories resulted in the script that, along with Jessica Bower's lovely songs,  became the basis of the play that was produced this past summer at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre, under the direction of Associate Artistic Director Gene' Fouche'.

Everyone associated with the production was so grateful for the warm response the production received.  A couple of performances were sold out and all of them had  enthusiastic audiences in large part thanks to the continued support of the WCG.

The production was designed to help support WCG programs and the MET presented a  check of  $2000 at the October luncheon. However, that is not the end of the story. Notre Dame  of Maryland University  has plans to produce the play in the spring of 2013 and in May of 2013 Society Hill Playhouse in Philadelphia hopes to offer either a production or staged reading.

Because so many in the Frederick community have expressed an interest, the MET may reprise Ï Am (Not) My Mother sometime in the near future.  Writer Suzanne Beal and director Gene'Fouche' want to thank everyone who helped make this summer's production successful.

Pictured are Karlys Kline and writer Suzanne Beal.
