New Solar Technical Training and Women In Solar Initiatives Launched by the Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA)

June 7, 2013

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - The Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA) today announced two new programs designed to encourage business and employment opportunities in the solar industry throughout Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East: Technical Solar Training and the SASIA Women in Solar initiative. Details of both programs appear on SASIA's newly re-launched website, www.saudi-sia.com .

SASIA's new Technical Solar Training program, created in partnership with Solar Energy International (SEI), will provide training specifically customized for the Middle East's quickly emerging solar markets. The pilot program will combine online and in-person training taught by some of SEI's most experienced instructors.

"We want to reach out to all levels of Saudi society, from the entry-level tech trying to get vocational training to business owners and government officials who can benefit from a better understanding of the solar industry," says Browning Rockwell, Executive Director for SASIA. "Training is the first foundational element as Saudi Arabia determines the role solar energy will play in its future. We're not just hoping to attract solar expertise from abroad, but to incubate and develop home-grown capabilities."

SEI / SASIA Training Schedule and Registration:

In addition, SASIA is encouraging the involvement of Saudi women with the Women in Solar initiative, launched in January under the direction of Marketing Manager Maha Shirah.

SASIA Women in Solar "As an organization we are fully embracing the opportunities for women who want to participate in the solar industry, and we are here to facilitate that in any way we can," Ms. Shirah said. "We run two networking groups on Linkedin, one of which is specifically designed to help women connect with the industry. Our hope is that multinational companies will soon come to Saudi Arabia to help us lay the foundation for a strong solar industry, with opportunities for both women and men."

SASIA will showcase both new initiatives and lead a VIP Saudi Delegation tour at the upcoming Intersolar Europe Exhibition June 19-21, 2013.

About SASIA: The Saudi Arabia Solar Industry Association (SASIA) is a non-governmental association that strives to help Saudi Arabia and the Middle East realize the full economic and environmental potential of solar energy. Its goal is to bring the national and regional solar industry together, transforming the vast solar potential of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East into a commercially- and environmentally-viable solution for the region's growing demand for electricity.
