* Saudi Arabia Middle East's sleeping giant stir's by Browning Rockwell , Executive director, Saudi Arabia Solar Industries Association Saudi Arabia is inviting bids for what could be up to 41GW of solar generation. But foreign companies wanting to get in the action must be patient.
* Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia Looks to NREL for Solar Monitoring Expertise. NREL and its partner Battelle will install more than 50 monitoring stations in the Middle East kingdom this year to measure the solar resource and gauge the best spots for solar power plants and will also train local Saudis to operate and maintain the instruments and stations.
* UAE: Dubai looks to rooftop solar power revolution Dubai is finalising legislation that will enable property owners to feed solar power into the grid and may even allow them to make money from it.
* UAE: Solar Mirage in the Middle East? Solar power in the Middle East seems simultaneously logical (sun-scorched deserts everywhere) and illogical (all that oil!). That contradiction lay just under the surface in March as United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan flipped the ceremonial switch to ramp up the new Shams 1 solar thermal power plant toward its 100-megawatt capacity
* Qatar - QSTec leadership recognized. Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) has been voted as a winner of the 'Leadership in Global Solar Technology' awards at the fourth Middle East Business Leaders Awards, which honours the best in innovation and excellence in the region, in Abu Dhabi. * Jordan - Renewable Energy opportunities in Jordan. Jordan is an up and coming market for renewable energy with vast renewable energy opportunities. Owing to the fact Jordan is highly dependent on imported energy sources, with over 90% of its energy resources currently imported, the Jordanian Government is keen to encourage renewable energy projects with both local and international developers. 
IT-DREPS is a multi-disciplinary conference aiming to explore the potentials of applying Information Technology (IT) in analyzing, modeling, simulation, developing, evaluating, monitoring, and control Renewable Energy Processes and Systems (DREPS).
* Morocco - Acwa Power awards contract for Moroccan solar plant. Saudi-based power and water plant developer Acwa Power said Tuesday its Moroccan unit has awarded a Spanish consortium a contract to develop a 160-megawatt concentrated solar power, CSP, plant in south of the north African country.
* Turkey - Sunny Days Ahead for Turkish Solar Power. Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority ("EMRA") will grant the first ever solar energy licenses after receiving applications between June 10-14 this year, for a maximum total capacity of 600 MW in 27 regions previously announced by the Ministry of Energy.

Technology Focus -
Amonix Inc., the leading designer and manufacturer of concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) solar power systems, announced today that it has successfully converted more than 36% of direct sunlight into electricity. A module showcasing Amonix's latest-generation CPV technology has been in outdoor testing from late February to April of this year.
