* Saudi Arabia: Saudi dressing down over energy wastage. A growing population means growing consumption, and the domestic demand for energy could double by 2030. But alternative energy streams, high-efficiency buildings, appliances and industrial machinery along with careful energy consumption by consumers can help preserve the Kingdom's fossil fuels for export and revenue, according to state-run oil company Saudi Aramco.
* UAE: Call for Funding Proposals: IRENA / ADFD - Funding for renewable energy projects in the developing world. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is soliciting online applications for concessional loans worth USD 50 million from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) to facilitate renewable energy projects in developing countries, in the first of seven funding cycles totalling USD 350 million. The deadline for applications is January 12, 2013. Registration * UAE: Middle East beginning to embrace solar energy. Covering nearly 300 football fields in a remote patch of desert, the Shams 1 solar project carries off plenty of symbolic significance for the United Arab Emirates. * UAE : The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) has launched the Emirates Energy Award (EEA) this year to recognize the best implemented practices in energy conservation that showcase innovative and exemplary measures in water, power & transportation fuel. The EEA submission deadline is January 20, 2013. * Qatar: Gulf state plans 200 MW solar project. - The president of the Qatar General Electric and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) and the Gulf State's energy minister revealed plans for a 150-200 MW facility at an unidentified location or locations, with the aim of freeing up more gas for export.
* Jordan - Jordan announces first feed-in tariffs Jordan's Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) has announced the county's first feed-in power tariffs for renewable energy sources, according to the Jordan Times. The ERC has said that buy-back rates of 120 fils per kw/hr will apply for electricity produced from solar, and 85 fils per kw/hr for wind power. * Jordan - CSP Consolidates Position in Jordan's Market.The MEMR's (the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) has requested expressions in interest and five CSP projects have been shortlisted.
