     * QatarQatar seeks wider use of solar powerQatar is conducting research on how solar energy can be harnessed for use in air-conditioning and to produce desalinated water, among other things, the head of a key national solar energy development project has said.

    * Kuwait - Japanese, KCCI held seminar on ways to cut energy consumption. Focus on Concentrated Solar Power technology. JCCME held roundtable talks with Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) prior to the seminar. Based on the insights gained from the meeting, Hirota said that Kuwait is going to face an acute increase in power and water demand in the near future, "which in turn will lead to heavy consumption of fossil fuels."

*Jordan Trina Solar Ltd, the world's fourth largest solar panel maker, is poised to invest up to US$200 million in a major solar power project in Jordan.
This would be one of the first commercial solar projects in the country and it has been driven by Jordan's drafting of a law in 2009 which cleared the way for investment in renewable energy projects.
