The Last Mile
by David Baldacci

"The Last Mile" starts with a man on death row minutes away from his execution when he gets an unexpected reprieve. Hooked from the beginning, this book was even better than its predecessor "Memory Man"! It had many twists and turns, keeping my attention till the end. Don't be surprised if you don't want to put it down!
Enjoy!

Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold and the Fate of the American Revolution
  by Nathaniel Philbrick

Philbrick takes a fresh look at the early days of the American Revolution in this book. With a special focus on the battles and tactics in the early days of the war as well as the personalities of the key players and their relationships with each other. The name Benedict Arnold has become synonymous with the word traitor. And a traitor he was, but before he went to the British side he was one of Washington's most able and loyal Generals. We finally have a chance to get into his mindset as well as others. I found it riveting. -Bob

Goody Hall
by Natalie Babbitt

A great mystery story with a great message about what is really important. Fun and interesting with many surprising twists and surprises. I recommend it highly for any reader from third grade through adult. There is a light sense of humor running through the story as well as a great cast of characters, from semi heroic actor/tutor Hercules Feltright to gossipy Dora Tidings. -kim

Plum Tree
by Ellen Marie Wiseman

"Plum Tree" by Ellen Wiseman      Another great historical fiction set during WWII, but this time in Germany.  A very powerful, emotional story from the perspective of an innocent German family and their townspeople.  It is also the story of love and survival during the most difficult of times. Wiseman transported me back to those horrible years where no matter where you lived, your life changed forever.  -Sue

Back in The Day: More Fishing Stories From Point Judith   by Cindy Follett Guldemond

Growing up in a Point Judith fishing family Cindy heard a lot of great fishing stories from the elders fishermen of Point Judith. They were comfortable talking to her and their stories resulted in her first book Salt of The Sea. Her second collection Down the Point came out last year. Down the Point turned out to be too big hence the 3rd book, Back in the Day, which is out now. It captures stories from many of the next generation in Point Judith, before the regulations changed the way fishing was back in the day.

Defining Corruption Through Tales of Political Intrigue in Rhode Island
by Paul F. Caranci & Thomas Blacke
Scoundrels is an unsettling chronicle of corruption in our times. Yet despite its timeless nature and its devastating impact on society, "political corruption" remains an elusive term that is difficult to define.Using several infamous instances of corruption in Rhode Island politics as its framework (considered by many to be one of our nation's most corrupt states). This book  attempts to define what has not always been easily recognized and for years, has eluded traditional definition. This book examines and categorizes various forms of corruption - including both active and passive practices - that have negative and deteriorating affects not only on the individuals who fall victim to the corrupt acts, but on society as a whole.

Scared to Death..Do it Anyway
by Brian Beneduce and Steven R. Porter

Brian Beneduce has always known there was something wrong with him -- very wrong. Even at a young age when his friends were enjoying activities as harmless as sleepovers, he would hyperventilate, sweat and tremble at the mere thought. As he got older his condition worsened. Open spaces, crowds, bridges, tunnels, elevators, planes and traffic all sent him into spells of debilitating fear and panic. He vowed that he would find the willpower he needed to beat it -- or would die trying. Scared to Death.... Do It Anyway is one man's inspirational and tumultuous journey told through the thoughts, feelings and secrets of an acute agoraphobic. It not only chronicles three decades of severe panic and anxiety attacks, but it also reveals the healing thought process of self-realization that helped him defeat "The Thing," build a multi-million dollar business, and discover a life of true happiness.
