Local Author Event
Saturday March 19th 12-3 Local Author Jon Land will be in store signing copies of his newest title co-written with Jeff Buck and Lindsay Preston Takedown: A Small-Town Cop's Battle Against the Hells Angels and the Nation's Biggest Drug Gang
Jeff Buck thought he'd seen it all. Twenty years working undercover in the netherworld of drugs had left him burned out and grateful to assume the quiet job of police chief in the small town of Reminderville, Ohio. That is, until a simple domestic assault case turns out to have links to the murder of a drug runner in upstate New York and a syndicate smuggling billions of dollars in drugs across the U.S.-Canada border.
Takedown spans the period of December 2007 to June 2009.

Seven Sisters
by Lucinda Riley
The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley A sweeping family saga and dual love story centered around a family of adopted women. Maia, the oldest, goes in search of her true heritage and her quest takes her from Lake Geneva to Brazil, from a lonely life to a life filled with love. It is also the story of her birth family, especially her great grandmother Izabela as she struggles to find happiness back in the 1920's. This story has some mystery, romance, art history and I was captivated by these 2 women. -Sue

How the Irish Saved Civilization
by Thomas Cahill
The dark ages could have resulted in a massive loss of culture, learning, and history had it not been for the scholars and monks of ireland who were able to preserve many of the the West's written treasures. When Europe was able to stabilize they were instrumental in spreading learning. While the author may have overstated it a bit with the title, this is an entertaining narrative that will transport you back in Irish history. -Bob Mrs. Houdiniby Victoria Kelly Wonderful novel about the intimate lives of Bess and Harry Houdini. Alternating between their lives from their first meeting to Bess' search for signs of her husband's return after his death, Victoria Kelly gives us a glimpse of what may have happened behind the curtain. I found myself swept up not only in the lives of the Houdinis but also in the simpler but exciting Jazz Age which came to life in this book. When talking about the Houdinis, their great love and Harry's incredible escapes and illusions are often mentioned, however, this book reminds us that at the core they were just two people trying to make their way in the world with the same insecurities and fears as the rest of us. Beautifully written book, I highly recommend it! -Lisa

Wicked Pissed: New England's Most Famous Feuds by Ted Reinstein They've been raw and rowdy, sometimes high minded and humorous, and in a place renowned for its deep sense of history, often long-running and legendary. There are even some that will undoubtedly outlast the region's ancient low stone walls. Ted Reinstein, a native New Englander and local writer, offers us fascinating stories, some known, others not so much, from the history of New England. Bringing to life many of the fights, spats, and arguments that have, in many ways, shaped the area itself, Reinstein demonstrates what it really means to be Wicked Pissed.

Mirror Opposites
by J.L. Daniels
The stock market crash October 19,1987 becomes a pivotal life-changing event for identical twins Tom and Glenn Lonardo. The fallout triggers actions and events that inexorably engulf the brothers, sucking them into a vortex called disaster. It is a tale of "cool" assassins, a unique Las Vegas casino with its enforcers, Wall Street players and pundits and beautiful women. It is a story of larceny, love and lust; greed and deceit; a fugitive on the run and murder! While it is suspenseful and has its unspeakably tragic twists and turns, it is highly entertaining and always amusing. It will keep a reader's eyes open! A work of FICTION, it borrowed from much that was true.

You Could Look it Up by Jack Lynch
Of the many problems facing dictionary authors past and present, the most predatory of them seem to be - in order - time, politics, and ghost words. And if you're already pulling up a tab to Google "ghost words," You Could Look it Up is written just for you. A casual but fascinating read that feels like sneaking into a library after hours, it offers an absorbing glimpse into the world-changing and frequently turbulent history of the reference shelf.
