Staff Picks For September
This author is an expert on art security and was Chief Investigator at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum among his other impressive credentials. He takes us into the facinating world of art cons and scams. The colorful characters, dealers, art thieves and their victims, art forgers and those desperate to believe. Along the way he explains what makes art valuable in the first place. Highly readable, and highly entertaining. -Bob
One of the most incredible and moving books I have ever read. A historical novel set in German-occupied France during WWII, the story is about 2 sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, and how differently they live and survive through this tumultuous and devastating time period. Hannah's portrayal is so good that I felt as if I was there living along side them and the ending is very powerful. -Sue
Wherever You Go, There You Are
by Jon Kabat-Zinn
A great introduction to meditation and mindfulness for the curious minded. The author does a wonderful job of illustrating an instruction in each short chapter.
Various topics are covered: How to free yourself from stress, cravings, and suffering by looking squarely at each one and facing up to one's emotions. -Kim
A beautifully written, addictive read. Two life-long friends join the crew of a yacht called "The Blue" to explore, enjoy and escape from their former lives. What begins as a exciting adventure quickly turns darker as cracks in their idyllic life start to show. I found it very hard to put this book down, stealing moments to read when I could bear it no longer. I enjoyed the characters and the descriptions of life on board the yacht and the places they visited. If you're looking for an escape on the high seas, I recommend a trip on "The Blue". -Lisa

Brady vs Manning The Untold Story of the Rivalry That Transformed the NFL
by Gary Meyers
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are perhaps the two greatest quarterbacks of all time. They have also been fierce rivals every step of the way. This rivalry has resulted in some of the best and most exciting games ever played.
But until now, there has never been a definitive treatment of the debate that tells the real story.
What do Tom and Peyton actually think of each other? What do their coaches think of them? What about teammates and opposing players? What are they like behind closed doors and in the locker room, and how does that influence their careers?
In this extraordinary book, veteran NFL correspondent Gary Myers tackles this subject from every angle and with unprecedented access and insight, drawing on a huge number of never-before-heard interviews and sources. The result is a remarkable collection of the most entertaining and revealing stories ever told about Manning and Brady.
