Michael Tiranno (aka the Tyrant) saved Las Vegas, Nev., from a terrorist attack in Land's The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending (2008). In this absorbing sequel, Michael faces a bigger threat-the infamous Black Scorpion crime empire, based in Eastern Europe, an organization that engages in human trafficking across the globe.
Larger-than-life action scenes play out in a variety of locales in this exuberant crime thriller. A major production for a feature film is in active development in Hollywood based on the franchised character of Michael Tiranno, the Tyrant. The Girl You Left Behind
by Jo Jo Moyes

This is a deeply moving story about 2 strong women facing incredibly daunting challenges and their fight for survival.  Sophie in German-occupied France during WWI and Liv in modern-day London. Their stories intertwine in a heartbreaking way centered around a portrait of Sophie painted by her husband before the war.  They both must use all of their wits and make many sacrifices to protect the ones they love and to find love again.
JoJo Moyes is a very talented storyteller.  An absolutely must read!!   -Sue

Life or Death
 by Michael Robotham

The Island of Dr. Libris
 by Chris Grabenstein

What a wonderful book! Young Billy is stuck in a cabin for the summer with no TV, no internet and a broken iPhone. His Mom is busy finishing her dissertation so she suggests he pick out a book to read. As he begins to read he hears sounds coming from the island across the lake, belonging to the mysterious Dr. Libris. Billy goes to the island to explore and discovers his adventures are just beginning. This book is a great way to introduce and cultivate a life-long love of reading in children. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to kids and their parents.      -Lisa

I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You
by Courtney Maum

Oddly charming tale of a man who gets bored with his life & his marriage & has an affair. I should not have liked Richard, the philandering artist, who rips apart his "perfect" little family, but I did find him endearing as he goes to great lengths to repair his mistakes. Turns out that nobody is perfect in this story about commitment or lack of it. Very enjoyable read.

I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend
by Martin Short

A lot of people, like myself, were really only familiar with his characters and comedy from his short stint on Saturday Night Live, which doesn't do justice to the career that Martin Short has had. In this upbeat and entertaining memoir he reveals his personal story along with some great anecdotes and an interesting "insiders view" of show business. With resilience and relentless optimism, he shares many moments of his life even those private and painful such as the death of his wife of 30 years to cancer. Overall, I came away with a greater appreciation of his talent and life.

The Most Anticipated Book of The Year
Releases on July 14th

An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, bestselling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Go Set a Watchman features many of the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird some twenty years later. Returning home to Maycomb to visit her father, Jean Louise Finch-Scout-struggles with issues both personal and political, involving Atticus, society, and the small Alabama town that shaped her.

This Month's Featured Local Interest Titles

Rhode Island Beer: Ocean State Brewing on Tap
by Asheigh Bennett and Kristie Martin

Rhode Island may be the smallest state, but its brewing history packs a mighty punch. In the 1600s, Sergeant William Baulston opened up his public house in Providence, providing New Englanders with one of the first spots to imbibe homebrewed beer. Prohibition sank many operations, but Narragansett Brewery reemerged and continues to serve its signature lager. Today's growing number of craft brewers, including Foolproof and Grey Sail, are claiming Little Rhody for the beer renaissance. With a sudsy spirit of adventure and even some beer-infused recipes, the ladies behind TwoGirlsOneBeer.com present the rich, proud story of brewing in the Ocean State."

A School in Trouble: A Personal Story of Central Falls High School
by William R. Holland

William R. Holland is a former Rhode Island commissioner of education and professor emeritus in educational leadership at Rhode Island College.
During and after his term as interim Central Falls superintendent in 2006-2007, Bill Holland sought answers to why some Central Falls High School students had school success while over half of their classmates failed to graduate. Much can be learned from how these students survived in a chronically low-achieving school located in the poorest community in the state. Holland has also written a follow up book
that we have in stock and will feature next month.

The Lady From Spain
by Gail Eastwood

A classic regency romance recently reissued by  Rhode Island author Gail Eastwood.

When a mysterious "Spanish lady" appears in a small Wiltshire village asking after one of the local residents, she not only attracts the attention of the town residents but puzzles Lord Danebridge, the military officer and government agent who has been secretly following her. Eastwood effectively peels away the layers of both plot and character in this well-researched story.

Boston Strong: A City's Triumph Over Tragedy

by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge

Veteran journalists Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge have written the definitive inside look at the Boston Marathon bombings with a unique, Boston-based account of the events that riveted the world. From the Tsarnaev brothers' years leading up to the act of terror to the bomb scene itself (which both authors witnessed first-hand within minutes of the blast), from the terrifying police shootout with the suspects to the ultimate capture of the younger brother, Boston Strong: A City's Triumph over Tragedy reports all the facts-and so much more. Based on months of intensive interviews, this is the first book to tell the entire story through the eyes of those who experienced it. From the cop first on the scene, to the detectives assigned to the manhunt, the authors provide a behind-the-scenes look at the investigation. More than a true-crime book, Boston Strong also tells the tragic but ultimately life-affirming story of the victims and their recoveries and gives voice to those who lost loved ones.

Harrison Squared
by Daryl Gregory

A Lovecraftian YA novel, It's the story of Harrison Harrison (called H2 by his scientist mother), a California teenager with anger issues, a missing leg and a dead father. He lost both the leg and the father in what he's been told was a boating accident when he was very young, but that's obviously not true. No, the leg was bitten off by a sea monster - the same one that then ate his dad - which, as far as novel setups go, is pretty solid. And awesome, with its shades of Moby-Dick and "Dagon."
