Save The Bay's
Uncommon Guide to Common Life of Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Coastal Waters serves as a bridge between the people who use and enjoy Narragansett Bay and some of the more common plants, invertebrates, fish, birds and marine mammals that share our Bay. This 2nd edition (with 171 pen and ink illustrations, plus 8 pages of color photos) reflects the expanded scope of Save The Bay's work - They have moved from a focus on Narragansett Bay itself to the whole region, including the unique and intimately connected freshwater tributaries and coastal marine waters of Rhode Island. Each plant or creature has its own entry with a beautiful illustration and a text description. Save The Bay's Uncommon Guide is an educational tool for both children and adults to use for learning about Narragansett Bay.

True Tales of Life and Death at Fort Adams
This book relates the fort's history over a century and a half through the stories of the people who lived and died there. Though Fort Adams never saw combat, battles took a more personal form in cases of unsolved murder, freak accidents and a tragic influenza outbreak. The human drama of Fort Adams is revealed for the first time in these pages and through these stories of life and death, author Kathleen Troost-Cramer traces the history of this National Historic Landmark.

Recent Staff Reads........

Cockpit Confidential
by Patrick Smith

This might not be for everyone, but for me it is a fascinating behind the scenes look at airports, airlines, and flying in general. Sometimes technical, sometimes humorous and sometimes philosophical, this book was very entertaining and informative, and "Yes" I'll have no problem flying again.

-Bob

The Forsythe Saga by John Galsworthy
This book is epic in sweep, encompassing three generations of an upper middle class London family during the end of the 19th century. It is actually three novels in one volume. With this much ground to cover, these books are full of love, hate, faith and betrayal, and populated with unforgettable and dysfunctional characters. Above all, this is a book about money and its destructive power.

The Secret Keeper

Wow, can this woman write a story! It's about a daughter finding out about her mother's life before she was her mother. Goes between present day and WWII. The ending is unbelievable. She also wrote one of my favorite books The Forgotten Garden.

 The Returned by Jason Mott

The Returned is a beautiful story for anyone who has loved, lost and wondered. In this book the dead are returning, but is it a miracle or a sign of the end of days? This story has an almost haunting quality about it that even after you stop reading it, you're still thinking about how you might react if your lost loved one returned. Jason Mott took this idea and created a beautiful, heartfelt, and sometimes scary novel that ranks as the best book I've read so far this year. I highly recommend it to everyone!
-Lisa

The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin

A sprawling saga centered around an apple orchard with compelling characters and set out west at the turn of the century.
A great book to take to the back deck.

-Ann

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

This book has gotten a lot of hype over the past couple weeks, and rightly so!  It is both happy and sad with great energy and humor.  Anyone who has found a true friend in the midst of a tough situation will be able to relate to Hazel and Augustus. With sarcasm, pain, wisdom, and humor Green has you turning the pages until you finish the book before you know it!

Harry Potter Fans!
Have you seen the new covers for
the Harry Potter Books?

Scholastic sanctioned
New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Kazu Kibuishi to revamp the book covers to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the U.S. publication of
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first novel in the seven-book series.

The new covers focus on pivotal scenes in the books and provide more detailed landscapes of key plot locations like Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. The new
Deathly Hallows cover depicts Harry, Ron, and Hermoine escaping from Gringotts Wizarding Bank on the back of a dragon.

Kibuishi also redesigned the artwork on the spines of the books. When the full box set is placed in order, it will reveal a sweeping image of Hogwarts at night.

Kibuishi had the opportunity to consider the series as a whole while planning his covers. Whether readers are picking up these books for the second, third or tenth time, Kibuishi's illustrations are especially resonant.

In November, Scholastic will also release the first boxed set of the complete "Hogwarts Library," a supplement to the seven-book series that includes school books

Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as the book of wizard children's stories, The Tales of Beedle the Bard. All sales from this boxed set will support the charities Lumos and Comic Relief.

Jon Land's unrelentingly plot-driven fifth novel featuring Texas Ranger Caitlin Strong

"Caitlin Strong, Texas Ranger, rides again in Jon Land's latest action-packed tale.  This one, involving the Mexican drug trade, grabs you fast and holds you tight.  Land knows how to write, how to plot, and how to tell a hell of a story.  One of the best and most original thriller series written today.  An excellent read."
