Booksigning Event Saturday May 4th 12-2 pm

Wakefield Books Welcomes Local Author Steven R. Porter
Steve will be on hand signing copies of his newest novel Manisses.

"Manisses" is a historical tale that takes place on a fictional island off the New England coast (that locals will easily recognize as modern-day Block Island.) It includes stories of pirates, rum-runners, witches, native maidens and a host of other eccentric characters, all brought together by a little girl's doll and an inconspicuous pile of rocks.

And did I mention the girl's father is a spiritual medium?

It's a little different, but it's fun. And I know you'll enjoy it.

Thank You!

~ Steven R. Porter

And check out his previous novel:
Confessions of the Meek and Valiant

Confessions of the Meek and the Valiant is not your father's -- or Godfather's -- mob story. The notorious underworld gangs of South Boston are gone, but loyal men still meet to glorify them in the backrooms of the raucous neighborhood pubs. So when Riley Lynch, a shy, bright and likable Irish-Catholic kid from Southie is accepted to a prestigious college in New York, his proud family and their old connections rally to support him. But in doing so, they inadvertently expose disturbing secrets from his family's past that cause Riley to question everything he was raised to believe. And it is only through the passion of a pure and innocent heart that he and those he loves can be rescued from his family's dark legacy, and from the control of a rising, new and ambitious mob kingpin. Confessions of the Meek and the Valiant is a fast-paced chronicle of love, family, adventure and redemption. It is a story of a young man's quest to discover who he is, who he wants to be, and whether he can accept what the world believes he has become.

Steven R. Porter is a writer, blogger, marketing consultant and the former Director of Advertising and Public Relations for Lauriat's Bookstores, Inc. Steven is also a frequent speaker and lecturer on Internet technologies, new publishing techniques, and, of course, his novels.

In 2011, Steven founded the Association of Rhode Island Authors to help bring awareness to many talented writers in the area. He serves as the organization's first president.

Booksigning Event Saturday May 11th 12-2

Just in time for Mother's Day! Join us and meet Linda Beaulieu, author of The Providence and Rhode Island Cookbook. Linda is a best-selling author, reporter, and food editor for numerous publications and has received the prestigious James Beard Award for her writing.

With a population of barely one million people, Rhode Island has a surprising number of local dishes, food traditions, and culinary terms that are unique to the state. Author Linda Beaulieu explores the food of Rhode Island, especially in and around Providence, and discusses how such a small state can have so many big flavors. In this new edition of
The Providence and Rhode Island Cookbook,
the author shares more recipes from talented chefs, family, and friends. These recipes highlight the bounty of native seafood and produce, as well as celebrate the ethnic mix of people and the characters who have populated the state over time.

Our Featured Children's Character This Month Is the Hungry Caterpiller

Eric Carle's classic story begins one sunny Sunday, when the caterpillar was hatched out of a tiny egg. He was very hungry. He ate his way through through the week. Full at last, he made a cocoon around himself and went to sleep, to wake up a few weeks later wonderfully transformed into a butterfly!

Brilliantly innovative designer and artist Eric Carle has dramatized the story of one of Nature's commonest yet loveliest marvels, the metamorphosis of the butterfly, in a picture book to delight as well as instruct the very youngest reader or listener. The final, double-page picture of the butterfly is a joyous explosion of color, a vibrant affirmation of the wonder and beauty of Nature.

Re-discover this classic story with your young reader at our display of this and other wonderful Eric Carle books in our children's section.
