Salt of the Sea: Stories Told by the Fishermen of Point Judith
Cindy Follett Guldemond will be in our store signing copies of her book from noon to 2pm on Saturday, May 19th.
Cindy, daughter of a Point Judith fishermen, interviewed 28 elder fishermen of the community so their stories would be documented. The fishermen tell the stories in their own words. They describe what it was like on and off the shore back in the 40's, 50's and 60's; in the days before fishermen had the technology of radar, lorans, fish finders and telephones. The stories bring to life what it meant to be working far beyond the horizon, with only their skill, courage and a little luck to bring them safely home again.
