Governor Launches Hire
Florida Grads Challenge

May is a wonderful month because we celebrate many graduations in our local area with various educational institutions. Governor Rick Scott recently launched a Hire Florida Grads initiative and has challenged regional workforce boards and Florida's public and private educational institutions to connect graduates to employment opportunities. Suncoast Workforce partners with colleges and technical institutes in various ways to connect graduates to employers. Businesses interested in hiring graduates are encouraged to list their positions on Employ Florida Marketplace, the state's portal that connects job seekers to employers.

Community Entrepreneur Opportunity
Graduates Recognized

Suncoast Workforce is honored to be  one of the partners of the Community Entrepreneur Opportunity (CEO) program. On May 14, the CEO program held its fifteenth graduating class and they celebrated their accomplishments with family, friends and other supporters. It was inspiring and exciting to hear new business plans of twelve aspiring entrepreneurs (several pictured above) and we hope that they are successful in their future endeavors. The CEO program is for entrepreneurs in the Newtown Enterprise Zone who are starting or expanding their businesses. It provides core instruction in 12-week sessions to produce a business plan along with one-on-one assistance. The CEO program was developed with representatives of SCORE, the Small Business Development Council of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and other business experts. CEO sponsors and partners include Comerica, SunTrust, SCORE. Sarasota County, and City of Sarasota Newtown/North Sarasota Redevelopment Office. For information about the CEO program, please email Dru Jones of call 941.365.2200 ext. 3222.
