Modernism Renewed
FREE Film Premier & Panel Discussion, February 2

AIA Cleveland in partnership with The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), is excited to invite you to the premier of the film, Modernism Renewed, by renowned film maker Thomas Ball.  This 30 minute documentary addresses the significance of structures from the modern-era, points out the common failures they are facing, and provides an overview why this preservation solution was appropriate for this building and how it might be appropriate for other buildings of this type.  GSA inventory includes approximately 600 modern-era buildings across the nation.  The A.J. Celebrezze Federal Building, in downtown Cleveland, is nearing construction completion on a faade over-cladding project that preserved much of the buildings original design integrity.  This film focuses on the unique double wall solution as a "preservation" approach to renewing the viability of the historic property and extending its functional use well into the future.

AIA Cleveland Celebration
125th Anniversary
The Cleveland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects was founded on October 11th, 1890, with 7 inaugural members. To celebrate this important milestone, AIA Cleveland created a legacy project titled the Cleveland Architects Project (CAP). The achievements of Cleveland architects have been extraordinary, and there has been a long and rich history of renowned architects passing through the offices of other legendary architects, along their journey in the profession.

CAP is an ongoing and evolving research project that illustrates the relationships among architects, their mentors and their protgs within the Cleveland area from the 19th through 21st centuries. The results of this research were compiled into a 125-year timeline along with a family-tree style diagram, which was revealed at the AIA Cleveland 125th Anniversary party November. Our goal is to continue to do research and build upon what we have started, turning the architects tree into an interactive and dynamic online document that can be utilized by architects, historians and students to learn more about our rich history.

The 125th anniversary was celebrated at the new Cleveland Institute of Art facility in University Circle on November 18th. Members of the chapter gathered to enjoy the 125- year timeline exhibit, as well as a panel discussion on the chapter's accomplishments throughout its history. A proclamation was presented to the chapter from Mayor Frank Jackson as well as Cleveland City Council.
