Dear fellow traveling families,
It's spring again! Spring break was incredibly busy for Quivertree families, who traveled across the globe. Today we turn the spotlight on Peru, a favorite Quivertree destination that just keeps getting better and better! Gideon took his two boys Daniel (15) and Eitan (11) on an amazing adventure and here is his report:
Peru - a fabulous family destination!
"Peru is one of our most popular destinations, and for this trip I decided to ramp up the element of adventure.
In addition to the Sacred Valley and all of its wonders, we added the classic 4 day Inca Trail - one of the great treks of the world, a Via Ferrata in the Sacred Valley, white water rafting, and also visited the amazing Amazon jungle, in the off-the- beaten-track Tambopata region.
We also discovered that Peru's recent elevation to the list of the greatest cuisines of the world is absolutely justified! It is without doubt a superb culinary destination!
I did have concerns that the Inca Trail would be too tough for the boys, especially Eitan, but he was at the front of the group every day. Firstly, we spent three days acclimatizing to the altitude, so that by the time the trek began, our bodies were fully adjusted. We camped for 3 nights, had a great team of porters, guides and chefs, and realised that the hike of around 45km is really very manageable for anyone in good physical shape. And if your physical shape isn't that good, the guides are extremely patient!
Our other adventures were all enthralling. The boys loved scaling the cliffs on the Via Ferrata, two days of white water rafting were amazing, and the Amazon was the real thing - we stayed 6 hours by local boat from the nearest civilization, and saw all kinds of wildlife - incredible macaws, peccaries, capybaras, caimans, various species of monkey and much more. Culturally, Peru is impossible to beat - we explored many ancient ruins, visited local families in their homes, experienced a real shamanastic ritual, and learned some of the secrets of modern Peruvian cuisine."
