Here and There

While I was waiting to take Rudy into the ring for his Utility debut last weekend I checked my email and found my friend Janet's weekly blog.  Janet and I have been friends since grade school. She's the most relaxed, focused and positive person I know.  It's no wonder that Janet is a successful Relaxation Coach.  Her blogs are always timely for me and this week's was no exception; "Here and There".  With Janet's permission I am sharing some of it with you in the hope it will help you focus on what's important as you train, when you go to the line at a test, when you enter the ring at a trial.

"As a culture, I believe that we are taught to strive for There.

When I get There all my problems will be solved, life will be so much better...

But every time we get There, it is like the proverbial carrot dangling in front of us, there is always a new There to get to.

We never quite get There until we drop the T and focus on Here.

That doesn't mean we can't dream and make things happen....but if we live in There mode and not drop down into Here while getting to There, we miss our lives.  We don't know the joy of living in the

Here.

We think that when we get to There we will be living in Here.  But living in Here has to be practiced every day"...........

Yes we need goals to get There; the leg/pass, title, the recognition of our hard work.  Goals give us purpose and structure.  But we won't get There unless we focus on Here.  Each time we enter the ring or go to the line, we should focus on Here.  Every time we train we should focus on Here.    Each obedience exercise, each rally exercise, each mark or blind at a hunt test all make up our Here. If we focus on Here, enjoy Here and learn from Here, we will get There.   But if we become distracted by There we will never get there.

Janet Archer is a Relaxation Coach. If there is one thing she is really good at, it is helping people find the off switch on their super busy over active minds so they can easily create the life of their dreams.
