Dog Friendly Performance Venues
What makes a performance venue dog friendly? Venues that recognize the importance of communication in a working partnership. These venues deserve our support because these are the ones that strive to enhance our relationship with our dogs.
North American Hunting Retriever Association
Introduced long before the AKC hunt test program, NAHRA field tests are designed to be realistic re-creations of hunting scenarios for both upland and waterfowl work. This does not mean the tests are easy - they are not. However, NAHRA allows handlers to quietly talk to their dogs while at the line, just as a hunter would do in the field. This ability to communicate reinforces to the dog that he is a partner, insures the dog's safety, and enhances conservation of game birds.
More than just marking and blind retrieve tests, the NAHRA tests also include the real life component of trailing and an upland hunt. NAHRA offers four levels of testing and titles: Started (SR), Hunter (HR), Intermediate (WR) and Senior (MHR). For more details on the program, visit their website at www.nahra.org
Companion Dog Sports Program
CDSP was created to make competitive obedience fun again while still keeping a high standard of performance with scoring based on traditional precision.
The ability to quietly communicate with your dog in the ring and reward once an exercise is finished improves a team's performance and creates a more relaxed and comfortable ring experience.
Mixed breed dogs and dogs with disabilities are allowed to participate. In addition to traditional class titles in Novice (CD-C), Open (CDX-C) and Utility (UD-C) and Obedience Trial Champion (OTCh-C), championship titles can be earned in all classes; CD-CCh, CDX-CCh, UDX, UD-CCh. For more information on the CDSP program, visit their website at www.companiondogsportsprogram.com
