Superintendent Bayer announces

new Sandy High principal

Oregon Trail Superintendent Aaron Bayer is pleased to announce that Kim Ball has accepted the Sandy High School principal position, effective July 1. Ball currently serves as Sandy Grade School's principal.

Superintendent Bayer said, "Kim is a leader and role model among our school administrators and I'm confident in her ability to continue moving Sandy High forward. Her wealth of experience and expertise placed her far and above the other possible candidates in our pool. "

Ball started her career in 1997 as a teacher at Sandy High School where her leadership skills became evident early on as she undertook a number of administrative roles including Teacher on Special Assignment, Activites Director, and Vice Principal. Ball went on to serve as principal at Cottrell Elementary School, and in 2010 served dual-duty by helping the district launch a new charter school - the Oregon Trail Primary Academy. In 2011 Ball accepted the Sandy Grade School principal position in succession of Principal James Phillips. In 2012 Sandy Grade School earned Oregon Model School distinction for their outstanding academic achievement, ranking in the top 5% of Title 1 schools.

Ball acknowledges that leaving Sandy Grade School will be bittersweet, but she is excited about returning "home" to Sandy High. She stated, "It has been an honor to work with Sandy Grade staff, students, and parents. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to broaden my perspective on education, grow from the diverse staff, and learn what must be accomplished in the elementary years to ensure that students graduate and enjoy the future they deserve."

Ball will complete this school year at Sandy Grade and will transition to Sandy High effective July 1. The District will post the Sandy Grade School principal position with a target of completing the interview and hiring process by early June.
