System upgrades approved

The OTSD Board of Directors reviewed and approved system upgrades for all schools, including fencing, entryway vestibule wall construction, and communication and lockdown systems integration. Projects are targeted to begin this summer.

Two-year school calendar approved

The Board also approved calendars for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years.

The 2013-2014 calendar reflects a traditional school-year, with school beginning on September 3 and ending on June 11. The 2014-2015 calendar reflects an earlier start date, with school beginning on August 25 and ending on June 4.

Maximizing instructional time

With the introduction of Common Core State Standards comes an increased degree of academic rigor and more challenging state assessments. Maximizing instructional time is more important than ever for students. Their academic success is dependent upon learning the skills that are essential to being successful in our global workplace. Superintendent Bayer expressed his support for increasing student contact time prior to the May assessments: "Your child's academic success is very important to us. Every decision we make is done to position your child for the future they deserve."
