Oregon Trail announces administrative

change for 2013-2014

Sandy High School Principal Tim Werner stepped up to the plate in 2011 to lead a two-year transition to the new facility. With his experience as principal of Boring Middle School from 2008-2011, and his prior experience at Sandy High as a vice-principal and teacher, he was the right person for the job. The transition was resoundingly successful. With that fete accomplished, Tim will head back to Boring in the fall to resume his role as middle school principal.

Werner values the experience of opening a new school, but looks forward to returning to Boring Middle. "I will miss everyone at Sandy High, just as I have missed the staff, students, and families at Boring." Middle school is a turning point for adolescents - a time of forming attitudes, values, citizenship, lifelong learning skills, and much more. Werner adds, "I am keenly aware of the impact a successful middle school experience can have on an adolescent's success in high school and beyond, and I'm excited to again be in a position to affect that middle school experience."

Aaron Bayer served as Sandy High principal prior to being selected in 2011 as the Oregon Trail School District superintendent. As principal, Bayer had been instrumental in the design and planning of the new school, and he knew it would take a flexible and experienced administrator to ensure its successful completion. Bayer said, "Tim has been a respected and valued leader in Oregon Trail for many years and was doing an outstanding job at Boring Middle. We needed an administrator of his caliber for the two-year transition period, and I'm grateful he accepted the challenge. He leaves Sandy High in a good position moving forward."

Courtney Murphy, Boring Middle School's principal since 2011, will continue to play a key role at the school. She will resume her prior role as vice principal, providing organizational support for both Boring and Cedar Ridge Middle Schools. "Filling Tim's shoes as principal for the past two years has been a remarkable experience, and I look forward to again working alongside him to continue the good work at Boring Middle." Superintendent Bayer stated, "Courtney has done an excellent job developing partnerships, increasing technology resources, and strengthening instruction." He added, "We're fortunate to have Courtney and Tim on our administrative team. They are both highly-qualified administrators who are willing to serve our students and staff wherever needed. Their flexibility has been invaluable."

Werner and Murphy will continue in their current administrative roles through the end of this school year. The District will immediately begin of the process of recruiting and selecting a Sandy High principal, with the new school leader assuming their role effective July 1.
