Summer University for National Preventive Mechanisms
We are pleased to announce that the first French speaking summer university for National Preventive Mechanisms will take place in July, in Lyon, France. During five days of training participants will gain a better understanding of the prevention of torture, with a focus on monitoring of police detention. The course is now open for registration.
African anti-torture committee CPTA reaffirms the right to redress
The Committee for the Prevention of Torture in Africa (CPTA) is developing a General Comment on the right to redress for victims of torture or ill-treatment, under Article 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.
Supporting Panama to establish its NPM
The APT continues to support Panama in creating the National Preventive Mechanism. The Sub-commission, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in charge of establishing the NPM has now committed to accelerate the process.

Update to Detention Monitoring Tool


The Second edition of the Detention Monitoring Tool, jointly published by APT and Penal Reform International in 2014, incorporates the revised Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, the Nelson Mandela Rules. All thematic papers and fact-sheets have been updated (English version only).
