| BIG Welcomes Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain as Speaker for November 12 Luncheon
| From sugar cane and soybeans to dairy products and poultry, Louisiana proudly feeds this nation and the world. Learn more about our state's burgeoning agriculture economy from Dr. Mike Strain, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture, at our November 12 BIG Luncheon.
Commissioner Strain will share statistics on Louisiana's significance in the nation's food production, and challenges and opportunities that our farmers and all Americans may face as food demands increase around the world.
The monthly luncheon begins at Noon on Monday, November 12 at the Bayou Country Club in Thibodaux. We hope to see you and your guests there!

Lunch is free for BIG members. There is a $20 fee for reserved guests; $25 for walk-ins. Since BIG is required to pay for total number of reservations, all reserved guests will be billed for payment regardless of attendance. |
 | Nominate Yourself or Others for Service on the BIG Board of Directors

The Bayou Industrial Group Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations for our 2013 Board of Directors. If you are someone you know is interested in serving BIG as a Board member, please contact BIG Executive Director
Board members must be BIG members or employees of member companies and are asked to serve at least one three-year term. The BIG Board meets monthly at 11:00 am directly before our regular luncheons on the second Monday of the month. Nominations are requested by November 1.

 | Guide to November 6 Constitutional Amendments

We all know November 6 is ELECTION DAY for President of the United States, but it is also a big one for several state elected posts, Louisiana constitutional amendments, and other local option propositions.
Louisiana voters will be asked to cast ballots for U.S. Congress, LA Public Service Commission, judgeships, and a host of state amendments on the following issues:
1. Medicaid Trust Fund for the Elderly 2. Strict Scrutiny Review for Gun Laws 3. Earlier Notice of Public Retirement Bills 4. Homestead Exemption for Veterans' Spouses 5. Forfeiture of Public Retirement Benefits 6. Property Tax Exemption Authority for New Iberia 7. Membership of Certain Boards and Commissions 8. Non-Manufacturing Tax Exemption Program 9. More Notice for Crime Prevention District Bills
A local option vote on term limits for local school board members will also be on the ballot. Voters in each parish will decide whether or not to impose term limits for their particular parish school board. Read the PAR Guide to the Amendments here.
Other local option propositions vary from parish to parish.
