The purpose of the Future Housing Survey is to get YOUR opinion. This is your opportunity to weigh in with your opinions. Any recommendations made to the Board will be commensurate with what is important to SCOV residents.

What do you want for SCOV in the near and longer-term future? We would like your opinion and comments by completing the survey online . Please complete the survey by Monday, May 1. Relatively soon, the Future Housing Committee will make recommendations to the SCOV Board by looking forward 10-plus years and to identify what might be important and relevant to current and future residents. The Future Housing Committee is chartered to "... recommend a set of standards to guide and to regulate, including, but not limited to, building additions and modifications, lot combinations, architectural changes, building demolitions and multi-generational housing accommodations." A paper version of this survey will be available at the Activity Center, Desert Oasis, Catalina Vista, The Views Restaurant and Fitness Center. If the paper version is completed, please return it to Lisa Orach in the SCOV Welcome Center.

We would like to remind you that swimming pool lap lanes (which you sign up for) are for swimmers and active walkers. These lanes should not be used for standing. If you are not moving, please move to the open area of the pool. Active walkers and swimmers may share lanes. We would also like to remind you that perfume should not be worn in the gym. We ask for your cooperation in these matters.

At the Board meeting this week, the Board passed an amendment to the Development Standards Section 2.17.c.vii which states "No shrub which significantly obstructs the sightline from a neighboring property shall exceed six feet (6') in height as currently specified for hedges in Section 4.18 of the Master Declaration. Identification of a non-complying hedge or shrub greater than six feet (6') may be submitted by a resident to the Community Services Coordinator." With the advent of the new ruling about 6 ft. shrubs, look at the growth in your yard. If you think you have a shrub that obstructs a neighbor's view, talk to your neighbor and ask him/her if your shrub is a view problem for them. If it is, see if something between where it is and 6 feet tall would eliminate the problem. This would be a nicer solution than getting a letter saying you need to trim your shrub.

Driveway shrub height enforcement. In December 2016, the Board approved a new Development Standard regarding the height of shrubs located near a driveway within close proximity to the sidewalk which could possibly block line of sight if someone is exiting a driveway.
No shrub or planting which significantly obstructs sight lines of persons exiting a driveway in an automobile, golf car or the like, shall be allowed. Such shrubs must be pruned to a height of 42" or less to allow a safe exit. Development Standard Section 2.17.c.vii.
In order to give residents ample time to inspect their front landscaping for this situation and trim the shrubs, no violation will be sent for three months on this matter. Beginning May 1, the 42" height rule will be enforced.
Please check your shrubs so that the line of sight is not obscured by the height of your bushes and take action to prune them.

A new AED has been installed in the storage room between the Tennis Courts and the Pickleball Courts.

Each night the monitor at the AFC checks to see that all craft room doors are locked. It seems that many have been found unlocked lately. Please make sure the last person out of the room locks the door.

Did you know: Nearly every week I hear of someone in our community that has been the victim of a scam. This week it was a telephone call from someone supposedly representing Microsoft. Please be aware that Microsoft does not make phone calls about cancelling services. Also, be careful and question anyone who calls asking for money. The police are good at vetting these types of calls and often your banker is aware of the scams as well.

Interesting tidbit: The Ambassadors gave 331 tours of SCOV to potential residents from July of 2016 to March of 2017.

Getting to know the GM: I enjoy doing much of the work on my own vehicles. In the past 12 months, I replaced my brakes, radiator, front end ball joints and air conditioning system on my old Chevy truck.
