It was recently brought to my attention that the firefighters in our district perform a number of other services, which I thought would be good to share with you. Golder Ranch Fire District services available for residents might surprise you; the list is available here.
Results from the recent survey on blocked views: Thanks for your quick responses to the recent survey about increasingly blocked views in SCOV from growing trees and home additions. You shared lots of information, opinions, examples, experiences and comments which the survey team has compiled and will be reporting to the SCOV Board in mid-April. Before we do, however, we'd like to share the survey results with all SCOV residents to make sure we heard you and haven't missed anything. Two open meetings in the Auditorium are scheduled for the first week in April. Please plan to attend one of these meetings to hear the results of the survey. Monday, April 3, 2-3 PM or Tuesday, April 4, 9:30-10:30 AM.

New Development Standard Enforcement. In December 2016, the Board approved a new Development Standard regarding the height of shrubs located near a driveway within close proximity to the sidewalk which could possibly block line of sight if someone is exiting a driveway.
No shrub or planting which significantly obstructs sight lines of persons exiting a driveway in an automobile, golf car or the like, shall be allowed. Such shrubs must be pruned to a height of 42" or less to allow a safe exit. Development Standard Section 2.17.c.vii.
In order to give residents ample time to inspect their front landscaping for this situation and trim the shrubs, no violation will be sent for three months on this matter. Beginning May 1, the 42" height rule will be enforced.
Please check your shrubs so that the line of sight is not obscured by the height of your bushes and take action to prune them.
The Modelers Club will be having another "Spring Break Open House" on Saturday, April 15, 10 AM to 3 PM, the day before Easter. As in our past open house programs, we will be operating locomotives in both steam and diesel. The train layout in the Modelers room has many new interesting additions. There is a farming area with buildings and crops. A very detailed lumber mill has been constructed and is being installed. Finally, a coal mining company is getting started. The Modelers Club will be looking forward to your visit, as we are very proud of what we have accomplished.
The Views Restaurant sets new records: Congratulations to The Views Restaurant for setting a new record on St. Patrick's Day by serving 200 plates of corned beef and cabbage. They also set a record of over $104K in revenues for February.
Irmel Wheeler and Judy Haberski would like to thank the residents who were selling at the courtyard sale for their generous donations of blankets, linens, and small household items to the Tri Community Food Bank and Thrift Shop in Mammoth and to the Veterans Helping Veterans Organization.
Submission deadline for getting information into This Week In Sun City Oro Valley (TWISCOV) is Wednesday at Noon. This gives me and my staff time to put this publication together.
Did you know: In the Development Standards of the community, Article 3 is entitled Commercial & Institutional Development Standards. Section 3.2 addresses how we treat the common areas, including washes. It says in part, "The Sun City Oro Valley landscape is based on a philosophy of compatibility with the existing Sonoran Desert, sensitivity to its fragile ecosystems, a commitment to low water usage and energy conserving techniques. To this end, existing natural features such as unique vegetative groupings, rock outcroppings and washes shall be preserved." Mary Cunningham is our Landscape Maintenance Department Manager. She does a great job following the development standards and helping preserve the natural state as described in this Section.
Ceramic and Glass Totem project was dedicated yesterday, 3/29. Be sure to stop by the Artisan Center Courtyard to see this colorful, whimsical collaboration of the Clay and Glass Clubs.
Joan Kelley of the Clay Club and Renee Ford of the Glass Club cut the ribbon on the totem project.
Interesting tidbit: According to the National Council for Home Safety and Security, Oro Valley is the 4th safest town in Arizona. The report is based on an annual report compiled for crime statistics from the FBI.
Getting to know the GM: In my spare time I enjoy working with leather. Currently I'm creating some moccasins that are made out of moose leather and lined with beaver. I guess I'll wear them on the one or two days of winter when it is really cold, you know around 40 or 50 degrees.
