Renter Policy Change - Effective immediately all homeowners who rent their property are required to submit the paperwork for the renters three business days prior to their renter's arrival in SCOV. The three forms are on our website at Member Services/Renting Your Home. There will be a $100 fine imposed beginning in March for noncompliance.

Telephone Directory: The website online directory has been updated. Please review your listing. If there is anything that needs to be corrected, please let me know. Look at NEW REZ for new resident information or changes to existing resident information. Thank you. Carolyn Lerch  818-3319, gclerch@comcast.net

New Development Standard Enforcement. In December 2016, the Board approved a new Development Standard regarding the height of shrubs located near a driveway within close proximity to the sidewalk which could possibly block line of sight if someone is exiting a driveway.
No shrub or planting which significantly obstructs sight lines of persons exiting a driveway in an automobile, golf car or the like, shall be allowed. Such shrubs must be pruned to a height of 42" or less to allow a safe exit. Development Standard Section 2.17.c.vii.
In order to give residents ample time to inspect their front landscaping for this situation and trim the shrubs, no violation will be sent for three months on this matter. Beginning May 1, the 42" height rule will be enforced.
Please check your shrubs so that the line of sight is not obscured by the height of your bushes and take action to prune them.

Budget Forum - The Board will be conducting two forums to discuss the 2017-18 budget and homeowner dues. Please join us on Thursday, March 23, 6 PM, Auditorium or Friday, March 24, 9 AM, Auditorium.

Remember to meet with Melissa Martin, Senator Jeff Flake's assistant, Tuesday, April 11 at 10:30 AM in the Activity Center/Kachina Lounge if there are any issues or questions for which you'd like help from your Senator in Washington, D.C. She is here in SCOV the second Tuesday of every month except June, July and August. Sponsored by the Government Affairs Committee.

Tech Savvy? SCOV is hiring a few part-time monitors who are tech savvy. These individuals will set up for events, maintain the building and assist with audio visual presentations by the Association or clubs. If this sounds like something you're interested in, please contact Pam Sarpalius at psarpalius@suncityorovalley.com.

"Stressed is Not Desserts Spelled Backwards."
On Friday, March 17at 1 PM in the Auditorium, the Active Health Committee is hosting this presentation by Dr. Joe Utash, D.C. He is a family chiropractor, health advocate, speaker, and radio host. Dr. Utash will focus on how unmanaged stress leads to cardiovascular disease, increased inflammation, and a weakened immune system. He will share five steps to increase your happy chemicals and reduce stress naturally.

Support the Rich Raffle sponsored by the YOTO/Northwest Auxiliary by purchasing raffle tickets in the Activity Center lobby Monday morning March 20 from 9-11 AM. Grand Prize is $500. Tickets are $10 each, 6 for $50, or 15 for $100. Make checks payable to YOTO.

In addition, the YOTO/Northwest Auxiliary is collecting scrap gold and silver jewelry and dental metal to send to GARFIELD Refining with all proceeds going to YOTO. Drop off items in the AC lobby Monday morning March 20 from 9-11 AM.

The SCOV Library is looking for a resident who is skilled at navigating online sales sites such as Ebay, Etsy and Craigslist to sell old books and the occasional outdated but unique office equipment. It would be icing on the cake if you also have experience dealing with old books. If you fit the bill and are willing to help out, please email Kate at kcusumano@suncityorovalley.com, or stop by to library to speak with her in person.

Please remember a few things when using the locker rooms after swimming. There are shower areas and dry areas. Please dry off before entering the locker rooms. Do not go into the dry rooms dripping water into those areas. It helps to remove wet swimsuits in the shower areas. In each locker room there are mops and squeegees for drying the floor areas. It is for the safety of everyone that we remove excess water, to assist in preventing anyone from falling.

Are you wondering why you brought certain items when you moved here? Well, turn those items into cash at our annual Courtyard sale. This sale is often called the "Why did I bring this to Arizona sale?" You can rent a table and turn your treasures into cash. The sale will be Saturday, March 25 from 7 AM-Noon. Please plan to be set up by 6 AM, as the crowds come early. A truck from the Golden Goose will be on site by 11 AM, and you can donate anything you did not sell. The sale of table rentals takes place from 9-11 AM on Monday, and Tuesday, March 20 and March 21 in the Activity Center lobby. Each table is $25.00.

Interesting tidbit: Are you aware that the wait staff at The Views Restaurant (TVR) are required by law to make at least minimum wage? Any difference between what their normal wages are and what they make in tips has to be supplemented by TVR if those two items together do not equal minimum wages, so we appreciate those of you who tip well the wait staff who do a good job serving you.

Getting to know the GM: The Professional Community Manager (PCAM) designation is considered the pinnacle designation in the field of Community Association Management. To attain this lofty status, among other criteria, the final requirement is for the manager to attend a "case study." At the case study the manager visits a HOA and for three days asks questions, taking tours and grilling the General Manager about the workings of the community. At the end of the three days, the manager has 30 days to write a thesis-type of report answering several questions that are posed by the Community Associations Institute. This report often exceeds 100 pages. As a PCAM, I was able to host the "case study" when it was done in Mesa a few years ago.
