The aluminum can recycling program, primarily for the benefit of the Loan Room, is looking for a few men or women to assist us with this program. We need daily sorters, about 15 to 20 minutes one day a week, and drivers and unloading helpers for our every six to eight week trip to the scrap yard. This will take a minimum of two hours per trip. If you can be of assistance, especially during the late spring, summer, and early fall months, please contact Dave Johnson (825-6994) for more information.

Tech savvy? SCOV is hiring a few part-time monitors who are tech savvy. This individual will set up for events, maintain the building and assists with audio visual presentations by the Association or clubs. If this sounds like something you're interested in, please contact Pam Sarpalius at psarpalius@suncityorovalley.com.

SCOV Director Taillie has resigned to move closer to family. At Thursday's study session, Director Steve Taillie resigned from the Board indicating he and his wife, Judy, would be moving back to Chicago to be closer to family. This was Director Steve Taillie's second term on the Board of Directors. Previous directors Tut Tustison, Charlie Trull and Debra Arrett serving with Taillie spoke of the Board's accomplishments during the time Director Taillie served on the board and in other leadership roles. 2009 Long Range Planning Chair Leslie Platt also spoke. Accomplishments include concrete golf cart paths, stabilizing the HOA fee, updated house paint color and a paid librarian. During a General Manager transition in 2008 Taillie served as one of the three Ts (Taillie, Trull and Tustison) who lead the community. Their leadership during that time realigned staff responsibilities and created a sense of cohesiveness. Director Taillie's contribution to SCOV is far reaching and is valued and appreciated.

Lou Gard to fill vacant director position. Following the resignation of Director Steve Taillie, by affirmative vote, the Board approved Lou Gard to fulfill the remaining term of Director Taillie. The remaining term goes through April 2018. (Bylaws 5.12.a)

Hero Among Us Award gets a new name. It is now called the Distinguished Service Award. The Board, at its January meeting, changed the name. The recipient(s) will be selected after the March Board meeting and will be invited to the Hail & Farewell dinner. Their names will be inscribed on our Distinguished Service Award plaque located in the Welcome Center, they will receive a dinner for four at our restaurant and will have a designated parking space of their choosing for the year. The announcement of this year's Distinguished Service Award recipient will be made at the April Board meeting and an article about the recipient's accomplishments will be in the May Tipster. There are so many worthy nominees, SCOV is fortunate for the level of volunteerism we enjoy. Let's all look forward to the big announcement.

The Arizona Distance Classic - walkers, runners and wheelchair racers will be racing on Rancho Vistoso Blvd. on Sunday, March 26. Please be aware that one lane will be closed for the race. For more information click here.

Interesting tidbit: Did you know that for 14 years the SCOV pool at the Aquatics & Fitness Center has received a 100% satisfaction rating on their inspection from the Health Department? Way to go staff!

Getting to know the GM: I started driving in Idaho at the age of 14. I would drive my grandfather's funeral coach/ambulance for emergencies while my grandfather was in the back with a patient. In Idaho in those days we started to drive with a license during the day at the age of 14. Night driving was not until you reached the age of 16.
