New Development Standard Enforcement. In December 2016, the Board approved a new Development Standard regarding the height of shrubs located near a driveway within close proximity to the sidewalk which could possibly block line of sight if someone is exiting a driveway.
No shrub or planting which significantly obstructs sight lines of persons exiting a driveway in an automobile, golf car or the like, shall be allowed. Such shrubs must be pruned to a height of 42" or less to allow a safe exit. Development Standard Section 2.17.c.vii.
In order to give residents ample time to inspect their front landscaping for this situation and trim the shrubs, no violation will be sent for three months on this matter. Beginning May 1, the 42" height rule will be enforced.
Please check your shrubs so that the line of sight is not obscured by the height of your bushes and take action to prune them.

SCAM ALERT - Attorney General Mark Brnovich is warning Arizonans to beware of the "Can You Hear Me?" robocall scam. Over the last few days, concerned Arizonans have contacted the Attorney General's Office to report suspicious calls from someone asking "Can you hear me?" More information can be found on the AG's website.

SCAMS are alive and well. It was reported to me that a club treasurer received an e-mail from the club president notifying the treasurer that he would need a check. The treasurer replied just let her know. She then received an e-mail from the president telling her the amount of the check, which was very close to the club's total bank account. The treasurer called the president who said he had never sent her any e-mails. Please take care and be careful.

If you are new to SCOV Rodeo Week in Tucson is a big thing. Kids even get out of school to attend. To carry on this great tradition we invite all residents and staff to dress western from February 18-24. Make attending meetings or just being around the community fun. Remember golf course attire remains the same as always.

Many have noticed the white powder-like build up around the tops of all our brick buildings here in SCOV. This happens every year around this time after our long steady winter rains. It is the lime leaching out of the blocks of the buildings and walls. It may appear that there is more than normal with us having close to if not more than 2 inches of rain so far this year. We have treated this is the past, which seems to only last about a year. Treatment would normally take place in dry months of summer

Next week's ILR Sampler preview: Dr. Richard Lewis and his family spent 10 years in Afghanistan in urban and rural settings, working in medicine and community development with a non-governmental organization to practice medicine among internal refugees and help establish one of the first community development programs in the country. After completing his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, they returned to Afghanistan. For eight years Dr. Lewis served as the medical director of Afghanistan's national eye program, training Afghan physicians and treating patients at the University Eye Hospital in Kabul. In this Sampler, he offers a multimedia description of, and reflection on, their lives and work there. Thursday, February 16, 2 PM, Catalina Vista.

SCOV Blood Drive. Sun City's goal is to donate 40 pints. One donation can potentially help more than one person, and every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs blood. Can you help us meet our goal? Sun City's next drive is Thursday, February 16, 8-11 AM, Auditorium. Please schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-448-3543 or by visiting redcrossblood.org .

Interesting tidbit: Are you aware that the Architectural Review Committee received 227 submittals for changes made to homes in SCOV during the year 2016?
