New Development Standard Enforcement. In December 2016, the Board approved a new Development Standard regarding the height of shrubs located near a driveway within close proximity to the sidewalk which could possibly block line of sight if someone is exiting a driveway.

No shrub or planting which significantly obstructs sight lines of persons exiting a driveway in an automobile, golf car or the like, shall be allowed. Such shrubs must be pruned to a height of 42" or less to allow a safe exit. Development Standard Section 2.17.c.vii.

In order to give residents ample time to inspect their front landscaping for this situation and trim the shrubs, no violation will be sent for three months on this matter. Beginning May 1, the 42" height rule will be enforced.

Please check your shrubs so that the line of sight is not obscured by the height of your bushes and take action to prune them.

One great thing about living in Arizona is that we can cook outdoors all year. With that said we would like to remind you that when your club or event is using one of the Association outdoor grills they must be cleaned after your use. As you know we take a $25.00 cleaning deposit from users. Happily we have never had to keep a deposit. The purpose of this reminder, is to always clean grills and kitchen areas after your use. Thank you.

The Joe Bourne show on Friday, February 24 is SOLD OUT. If you have tickets that you can no longer use, post them for sale on the bulletin board at the Activity Center. Someone may want to buy them from you.

ILR Sampler for Thursday, February 9 will be at Catalina Vista at 2 PM. The title is "The Art and Science of Conservation," presented by Dr. Nancy Odegaard. It's been 70 years since the Monuments Men of WWII saved priceless treasures of European Heritage and 50 years since an army of volunteers saved the artistic treasures nearly destroyed by the floods in Florence, Italy. The fascinating work to preserve such objects of significant art, archaeology, and history while honoring the artist's original intent will be described. She will also describe her work with Beethoven's hair, the Lucy skeleton, the remains of the Kennewick Man, and the Chinchorro Mummies of Chile. Dr. Odegaard is head of the Preservation Division at the Arizona State Museum on the campus of University of Arizona where she is also professor at the Department of Material Science and Engineering, the School of Anthropology, and the Drachman Institute (historic preservation). Reminder: seating is limited by the Fire Marshall.

Members of the Architectural Control Committee (ARC) will be at a table in the Activity Center on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday, 9-11 AM in February. We can answer questions regarding Development Standards and we would like resident input of your thoughts about protecting mountain views in our community.

Remember to meet with Melissa Martin, Senator Jeff Flake's assistant, Tuesday, February 14 at 10:30 AM in the Activity Center / Kachina Lounge if there are issues or questions for which you'd like help from your Senator in Washington.

Friends of the Library: The SCOV Home Tour is Saturday, February 18. Tickets will be on sale Tuesday, February 7, at 9 AM in the Activity Center Lobby. Tickets are $25 each with a limit of 6 tickets per person. Checks may be made out to SCOV/ FOL. Proceeds from this popular event support the Library's purchase of books and audio-visual media.

Interesting tidbit: We received 3.7 inches of rain in January 2017.

Getting to know the GM: At holidays and special events, my grandmother always made brown sugar pudding. You'll have to stop by The Views Restaurant this Sunday, February 5 to try some as part of our "Celebrating Who We Are at SCOV" week.
