Attention Casual Golfers:
As noted above, the Pro Shop has set aside tee times for Casual Golfers. Last spring at our Golf Club Fair we visited with many people who were interested in golfing in a relaxed atmosphere without the worries of having to establish a handicap and having to adhere to all the USGA rules that are in place when playing in a league.
After much discussion, those of us hosting the club fair decided to place a flyer entitled "Attention Casual Golfers" in our Tipster inviting people with some golf experience to attend an informal meeting at The Views Restaurant. Over 100 people came and signed up to become a part of the Casual Golfers list. There was hope that the Pro Shop would be able to set aside some tee times when leagues are over and pace of play is slow, to get this group together.
A signup sheet for this event will be placed in the Pro Shop or call the Pro Shop to reserve a tee time. Please sign up ASAP and join us for a fun filled afternoon of golf.
Seeking SCOV Trailblazers and 2nd Generation SCOV Homeowners. On February 15, 2017, the Marketing Committee is hosting a 30th Anniversary celebration for the community. We will be honoring the "Trailblazers" who moved into the first homes in Sun City 30 years ago. If you are one of the original SCOV homeowners (1987 to mid1988), we are trying to locate you to send you a personal invitation to the celebration. Today, many homeowners are 2nd Generation; i.e., children of the original "Trailblazers." We would also like to know who you are and encourage you to attend the celebration and share your stories about why you love living in SCOV. Please contact Joy Huxtable at joyeh1115@gmail.com or call 520-548-2653, if you are a Trailblazer, or know how to contact them. In addition, if you are directly related to a Trailblazer, please also contact Joy.

Time dedicated to you for architectural changes: There have been questions about why the Community Service Coordinator's (CSC) office is open for architectural changes from 9-11 AM. This time is reserved for our residents to come in and meet with Katy Mosier to discuss what's needed to get their project off the ground and compliant with governing documents. The employees in the front office can answer some, but not all, of the home improvement questions, and you may be asked to return during the 9-11 AM timeframe. When the CSC's office is not open, the CSC is busy processing home sales (11 so far in November), and homes going into escrow, which involves working with the realtors and title companies, as well as the Architectural Compliance Team for home inspections (there are 10 to date in November). Violation letters are also processed through this office (there were around 400 in November); with 400 letters written you can imagine how many phone calls are received with questions about the violations. This provides a little insight as to what happens when the office isn't open. Please plan to bring your requests to the CSC's office from 9-11 AM, Monday-Friday and please be considerate to our employees out front when this time frame is brought to your attention. If you forget the times, they are published in the Tipster monthly on page 2 under Community Services.

Watching Water Consumption Like A Hawk
Recently, a SCOV resident received an unusually high water bill. Having recently reduced their outdoor irrigation and making no other changes in their water use, they wondered if the Town water utility rates had increased or if their water meter was defective, did they have a leak or other issue that caused the increase? The resident remembered that a few months ago they signed up for a free service that claimed to monitor water usage, but they had never looked at it. This recent water bill prompted them to check out the monitoring service, AquaHawk Alerting, a free service provided to residents by the Oro Valley Water Utility. Lo and behold, they see a sudden, significant increase in their usage reported on the system. Even more interesting, the report shows about 20 gallons a day being consumed during a series of days when they were out of town and their irrigation was shut off. This was a clear indication of a water leak. Hours of research and troubleshooting pointed toward a leaky toilet fill valve and a leaky sprinkler valve. Both were being prevented from fully closing due to small pieces of debris lodged in the valves. After the valve repairs, AquaHawk verified that the excess water usage has stopped.
The new water meters recently installed in SCOV report a home's water usage to the water utility's system in almost real time. That data is fed to the AquaHawk system so residents can view their usage, also almost in real time. To learn more about Oro Valley's AquaHawk Alerting system, click here. Learn how to register in the system, set up leak alerts and more. It's a great system that could save you lots of money.

Dogs and Javelinas. "Dogs aggravate javelinas, especially if a herd has newborn piglets. Any dog, large or small, can trigger a defensive attack, even if the dog is leashed. If you encounter javelinas while strolling with your pet, it's best to re-route your walk or retreat slowly and KEEP THE DOG FROM BARKING. Attacks can result in expensive vet bills - or even the loss of your pet - not to mention some damage to you [or bystanders] if you attempt to intervene." - by Lauray Yule
